I have a benq xl2720z. Great screen for gaming.
However I do advise against importing a screen with your budget, as you will get slapped with 40% VAT and Duties upon arrival.
Asus have good screens too. Watch some video reviews on youtube of the screens you are able to source locally and I am sure you will be happy

I would advise against importing those monitors as getting a warranty done could be a problem. I know a local forumite had issues with getting an Asus monitor with a dead pixel replaced.

I have the P2350 and one of the latest LG 5ms IPS screens and both perform similarly. The difference between the 2 is negligible unless you really have a sensitive eye. I would rather check out other brands like Dell and AOC before spending so much.

IPS arnt the best for gaming because you wont get them to run at 1ms and 144Hz, they have slightly more input lag:

this kinda one you looking for: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=2512302

not sure if you can find a cheaper samsung or dell in SA running 144Hz and 1ms, then rather get one of those.. otherwise AOC, they will probably release a Na'Vi edition soon because they just became one of their main sponsors.

I have a contact I could try to fly it in, hence no asus 144hz yet. I con't put 8-10K on something that is actually about 3k. Got to love RSA

What happened to them? I'm staring at one right now.
The ****ers just stopped working. I've tried about everything, but:

1. It went black after entering windows - this I fixed and it went away for a long time.
2. Red led is on then goes off - Tried both pcs in the house, different cables, dvi and vga... same thing. Apparently this is a bug that happens to that model. *shrugs*

you can also get decent AOC gaming monitors with 1ms and 144Hz
Thanks will check them out.

IPS I'll slap onto my design box

Links? If it is a known bug, perhaps solution is also known and easy to fix with little eletronics knowledge.

Trust me... I've literally tried everything and apparently you need to replace / fix the inverter or something. I'll link the links later on.

Here is a cool fact to remember:

LCD's need inverters, LED's don't.

Brilliant! No, just joking...

Just check specification, will see it is LCD backlight. :)

To OP. Cool, waiting for links.

Might be worth it getting them fixed rather, post those links when you find them (I might need it in future :D ). Where are you located more or less?

You can google them yourself:
p2350 switching on of
p2350 led on no display

etc etc.

As I said initially the monitor was perfect.
Then it switched off as windows loaded, this I fixed.
Then it was perfect for a long time, long time.
Now all that happens is the led (power) goes on, no display, led goes off.

I tried:
Different PCs
Different display cards
Different cables

Each time same result. ****ed.

I've looked extensively for the BenQ 144hz, but could not find any thing. The asus 144hz I'm not paying 6+k for it. Its ****ing ridicules, something that should cost about 3.5K-ish now in RSA costs 6-10K.

I'm not looking for an IPS I want a TN gaming panel. sigh.

1 - 2ms? Marketing bs.

Any modern entry IPS with E-IPS or equivalent panel ('5ms') will be perfect for gaming, and far superior than TN and the supposition that it's noticeably faster.

...as you can see form my shaky cam

1. Its on (led)
2. I press off
3. I press on, it shows, it goes off again

Did you try flashlight method after screen goes off, but before LED goes off? Do you see image in the flashlight? It would be typical fluorescent bulb failure, easy to fix. But I don't expect it, as large screen would have more than one bulb.

If you are around Joburg I can look at, no promises. If you already decided for a new one, +1 for PostmanPot
