Hey

Im looking for a new laptop for under R5k.

I found this one on PcZone:

http://www.pcmall.co.za/moreinfo.asp?sku=NX558EA#FullSpecifications

What I want to know is: What is wrong with it?? I also found this one:

http://www.pcmall.co.za/moreinfo.asp?sku=VC402EA

And the only difference that I can see is the processor ( 0,1 Ghz more ) and the R1k price difference...

Any other deals that I should consider?

I don't want a Netbook or a Celeron Processor and the screen must be bigger than 15", preferably wide screen HD.

Thanks

That one looks ok to me, (I ain't an expert)

The other one has Vista, so I'll avoid just for that.

Makro were having some specials, so have a look there too.

I see you have that one as one of your options... HP Compaq 615 ... Seems like the prices has gone up a bit, go mine for a bit cheaper from LandMark... Shop around and see maybe you can still get it at a cheaper price, think I got it for R4400

Add another gig of ram for R350 and you have yourself a nice laptop, got one Monday for my flatmate... The pictures of the laptop floating around doesnt do it justice, its a very nice looking laptop aswell... The pictures looked like cheap plastic but its not, nice finish... Good features for the price!

I see http://zones.co.za/ has it for R3999 they just call it the HP 6155... Depends where you are?

Just get another stick of Ram, there is one open slot... 2 Gig should be fine, but the memory is shared with the gfx card, so it can use a max of 512 leaving 1.5 gig..

PC Zone has the following below R5000:

HP Compaq 615s (AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core QL-66 2.2GHz / 1GB DDR2 800 / 160GB SATA) @ R3999 / R4099
Dell Inspiron 1525 (Core 2 Duo T6750 2.0GHz / 2GB DDR2 667 / 160GB SATA) @ R4299 / R4499
Acer Extensa 5630EZ (Core 2 Duo T6750 2.0GHz / 2GB DDR2 667 / 160GB SATA) @ R4699 / R4899
Samsung R519 (Pentium Dual Core T4200 2.0GHz / 2GB DDR2 800 / 250GB SATA) @ R4799 / R4999
Dell Vostro A860 (Core 2 Duo T5670 1.8GHz / 2GB DDR2 800 / 250GB SATA) @ R4999 / R5199

I'd recommend one of the Dells

Can't go wrong the Inspiron 1525. Vostro A860 is extremely entry level and a biach to maintain. Just replacing a HDD requires stripping the whole thing to the last screw... ;-)

I was Looking http://www.pclaptops.co.za/index.php?id=3&catId=2 at these dells. Can anyone tell me which provides most bang for buck or if I can find better. I'm also looking around R5000-R8000

Is there any danger buying a rebuild? I see they has some rebuilds or what they call refurbs also.

As it happens, I also need one now.

Found this at incredible corruption :http://www.incredible.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?SKU=71229 for R7999

DELL INSPIRON T6600 PACIFIC BLUE
SKU:71229
# Intel® Core 2 Duo T6600 processor 2.2 GHz
# 4096MB RAM
# 320GB HDD
# DVD Writer
# Integrated 802.11 b/g WLAN, Bluetooth & 1.3 Megapixels webcam
# Facial recognition software
# 15.6" Truelife WLED display
# Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
# 3 Year international warranty
# 3 Year local onsite warranty

It looks like a decent Notebook and a decent price from IC of all places.
Thinking of buying it today still.

You could also try Laptop Direct/ComX-Computers

I recently sold a HP 615 series to a customer, great notebook, well worth the cash and the customer also purchased an extra gig of ram which made the laptop a great deal for 5k.

What are you going for Alf101 maybe we can combine and ask for a discount for 2.

I went to look at that Dell at IC.
It looks nice, but I need Windows 7 Pro as I need to run XP programs on it, which apparently is a R1000 upgrade.
Also need a HDMI port, and decent graphics so that cancels out a lot of notebooks.

I found this Gigabyte 9W1580V-934FZA for R8628.
It has what I need plus more.
2 year warranty is nice, Dell has 3 year though.

Some okes here bought one for R8000 somewhere.
So now I need to find a place to buy it.

I went to look at Computer Mania at Canal Walk, but they don't have it in stock.
They do have specials on Vista laptops that they want to flog, but then I have to buy ram, and Windows again, so may as well just spend the R8600 and get it all.

I knew there was a catch somewhere. I also need Win 7 Pro and decent graphics- I'm going to cast my eyes further afield...be buggered if I'm getting a vista though.
