Hi,

Comstor have run out of these beauties again. They've sold almost a 1000 in less than 3 months!

I hope everyone buying them are flashing them and doing something useful with 'em.

However, it seems they struggle a bit to keep stocked up (not just on this particular product mind you). It looks like they have a government hospital policy. Let's wait till we run out of anti-venom before we order it again.

So does anyone have stock of WRT54GL routers? Any grey importers? (seeing as the warrantee is lost the moment you flash the firmware, I don't see a reason to pay twice as much to get it through an "Authorized Distributor")

Miro carry 'em, and sell to resellers and public (obviously at two different prices!); the NoWire BBZ shops also typically carry them, check their site for phone numbers/locations; and last, but not least, you check JustConnect (Connection is the guy here) to see if they have stock, too.

And if it gets *really* desperate, check your local Makro!

Bought mine from Centurion Technologies for R 650.

Happened to be looking for one yesterday and today: no dice at either Comstor (no surprise there) or Miro JHB. I lucked out getting one from Connection but he's within a hair's-breadth of joining the 'no-stock' gang too.

i see the v5 of WRT54G is now hackable, do you think its worth getting? or rather wait it out for GL?

DEFINITELY wait it out for a GL! The v5 is kinda hackable 'cos of BrainSlayer's m4d h4xx0r skillz :p, but the jumping through hoops you have to go through to get only his work onto it, and in a rather limited state compared to the full release just isn't worth it ..and that's before take into account any of the other 3rd party firmware releases out there that work on the GL, but won't/don't on the v5 (I'm happy to be corrected on this, I haven't thoroughly followed up on this).

'sides which, by all accounts, the Great Router Drought of early 2006 looks like it'll be lifted next week Thursday, on the 18th ..you've waited this long, stick it out another week!

I aslo heard that and thought it was just a rumour..... bugger what a waste.
/me think maybe they got some undamaged PCB...stuff the pretty plastic stuff. :p

Actually, for people that can't wait (and can make it lickety-split), there're two sitting at the BBZ shop in Village Walk - sure, not the cheapest, but not an unfair price either ...and available NOW! :D
