I was looking for a portal where I can download open source software locally, I remember open portal being mentioned before. Anyone know where I can find one.

Btw as side note I found this thread, and I must say these Openportal guys are lame and childish

It like they all want to control the torrent market locally hence getting butt hurt when another guy advertises his portal on their site. LOL stupid.

If someone else wants to advertise their site let them, the more the merrier, instead its all about e-power and trying to grow the biggest e-penis.

I don't think your point is valid.

[mod snip]

You can't go around, agree to a ToS and not obey it. You've agreed to a click-wrapped contract that you will not spam. You do get some sites that allow advertising, but not at to the extend of spam. If you are so sure that you may advertise, why not do it on the forums - why do it behind the curtain via private messages.

Again, personally I don't agree with you. but, democracy allows people like you to say their say. ...yay ^_^

You're probably a toddler strolling the forums, because you don't seem to know much about the 'real life'.

I guess that makes me the smartest toddler around seeing as for my age I pretty computer literate.

Listen to yourself man, the real world is all about keeping it real, you have a chip on your shoulder, are you against democracy? Are you chinese and do want the interwebz censored so that you can silence people who voice opinions that you don't like?

What about the click contracr for this forum does it not saw something to the effect of "no personal attacks"

Download open source software locally

With a torrent?

Please elaborate.

Are you expecting people who live in south Africa who have open source software on their computers to put up torrents so that you can use up their bandwidth?

Or, how does it work?

Don't you know about local torrents?

Telkom gives 10Gig of local for every 1Gig of international bandwidth. A lot of people happily use up that local bandwidth for torrents. Usually for movies and music etc.

Torrents are ideal for sharing open source software, not just linux distros but all the other smaller programs out there like Open Office and the tons of games and productivity software.

You sign up to a site and agree to THEIR terms for joining THEIR site. They are well within in their rights to ban you if you don't. Who cares what rule was broken.

Anyone who runs a community site, forums etc doesn't have to allow you to use their site. They can ban you as they see fit ;)

If you don't like it, don't join or go start your own site, but don't go onto someone else site to try and advertise your site if it's against their rules.

Ever think that theres no law against banning someone from using your site, but on the other hand there are laws making spamming illegal? ;) Just something to think about.

Thats how that GuDon guy should have responded instead of flaming me. You make a very valid point, its like "right of admission reserved" signs on buildings.

What irritates me is the childish leet behaviour that is demonstrated by chaps like GuDon what comes across as small "e-penis syndrome" :D

I mean I looked somewhere and I saw that they "opened a case" or something against the person, its like someone who wants to feel important like they are running a big site and they have power over their community and feel special and like a bigshot boss. Its just so silly and childish. That why I suspect they were so butt hurt that someone was trying to start another site. Because that would mean that they can't be leet bosses of a big site anymore.

Also reading PM's is highly unethical and backs up my argument about their mindset.

When someone starts a site like a torrent site they need to ask themselves why they are starting a site.

Reason 1.Is it because they want to provide a product or service to the community?

Reason 2. Or is it because they want to have a big community build up so that they can then have something to be in charge of and be a boss over and brag about.

If its for reason 1 then kudos to them it its for reason 2 then they should forget about it. If you start for reason 1 you eventually get the respect of your users and the large "community that you can control" aspect comes later, you earn that through respect and ethical practices.
