I'm looking for software that can generate a searchable key-word index of a group of arbitrary files such that the index can be distributed and used with standard Windows software. There are some great indexing packages around, such as Copernic but they seem to suffer from the general problems that 1) the index can't be distributed and 2) the software needs to be installed on each workstation that will use the index. I came across a product called Easy Index Generator that produces .CHM files but doesn't produce the key-word index. Any useful suggestions would be most welcome.

if you want this type of specific indexing then best would be to get some one to code it for you or do it yourself, in my time have never come across anything that fits the description that you looking for, though im still quite you so maby there is something that will work perfectly

Have to agree there - nothing fits what you want exactly.

If you code it yourself have a look at lucene (or lucene .net). Engine is a .dll index is a couple of files.

I not that hard to set up and perfomance/accuracy is hard to beat.
