Hi,

Can anyone give me a nice setup for a gaming machine. I am wanting to spend anything till around R 10 000, R 13 000 max. I want a nice machine to keep up with the future and not to buy parts every month or so.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a dual core or quad core ? Which one is better ?

It would really help if a number of people would come up with a list of components

Thanks

You can read a lot of old threads for lists of components, but basically what carderne said is what you will be reading.

If you want help with more specific parts for your budget it's a lot easier.

For the graphics you might want to think about SLI'ing (CF'ing) two 3850 512MB cards, or waiting for the new dual GPU cards from ATI and Nvidia.

Also if you plan to OC then specify that, you will want better RAM and the g0 stepping Q6600 etc.

10k including monitor etc?

The new 9 series graphics cards are being released soon, so I'd recommend waiting for that. They should be here some time in Feb, so even if you don't get one, prices for the older cards could drop a bit. If you can't wait, this is a rough guideline of what to get:
Q6600
Any P35 based mobo
2GB Hynix DDR800
8800GT
500GB WD hard drive
Samsung SATA DVD drive
600Watt Antec PSU, or similiar
What case you get is largely up to personal preference
Samsung 2232GW monitor
Logitech G5 mouse
Logitech G11 keyboard
Some case fans

Get the CPU, RAM, hard drive, dvd drive and monitor from PCint.co.za. For the rest, look at Prophecy Shop and Sybaritic.

Why go for a G11 ?? It's not like your saving a ton of cash the G15 is only R200 more. R200 is not budget breaking. Rest looks very good. I would concur with waiting till feb/march for the 9 series cards.
