Hi,
I have a renault scenic, 2000 model. The fan belt has snapped and the power steering rack, I think might be broken.
Does anyone know of somebody who can fix my car. No renault garages though, cause that will cost me an arm and a leg.
Thanks.

I am in a similar predicament. My Scenic has coughed up it's diesel pump and I have heard horror stories about the dealers in Cape Town. Never mind about the extortionist price of the spares.
Has anyone used an after market Renault mechanic in Cape Town that deserves a recommendation?
There was a guy in Plumstead but he has given up because Renault was so unhelpful the jobs were more trouble than they were worth.
Why does it need to be someone who deals with Renaults? It's only the fan belt. Any mechanic can fix that surely?

A mechanic is a mechanic. The badges on the cars are different but they are all made from the same stuff at the end of the day. They actaully share many components across platforms & brands.
Take it to any good mechanic.
Changing a fan belt you can do yourself, a little bit of diy knowledge and you can swop out a steering rack. Haynes service manuals can teach you just about anything.
I dont agree with you.
There are specialized tools and special training for each brand of motor vehicle. No longer easy as the older cars.
Timing marks/pully marks are in the past, most newer vehicles has specialized locking tools to set this.Thats just one aspect of it.
My advice is give it to someone who specializes in Renaults. As well a proper registered RMI company. As if something was to happend they will sort it out for you.Dont give it out to your back door mechanic, you will end up paying more in damages.
Just my 2c..
