I typically use 80-100 MB of bandwidth in a day. For the past two weeks or so, I've apparently been using 400 MB per day. My usage habits have not changed in any way, and it's definitely not a virus of any sort (I'm fanatical about security). Yesterday, I made a point of keeping an eye on my modem, and - as expected - it's not showing any unusual usage.

Wtf is going on? :|

Download netlimiter and check what is using the bandwidth.

1. Change your dial-in ISP account password at your ISP and on your router.
2. Unscrew your router's wireless aerial if you're not using Wi-Fi to connect to the router to eliminate the chance of a neighbor borrowing your data.
3. What paul5186 said.

I've just gone through my last bunch of bandwidth usage reports, and it appears this started last week - coincidentally, just after I'd installed a Twitter app called twhirl. Has anyone else had issues with this? I'm switching it off today to see if it makes any difference.

Still, 300 MB per day for a Twitter app? @_@

is the extra bandwidth showing during the day, or during the 0-8 window on your report?

I ask because I had a similar issue that turned out to be a reporting fault.

I'm seeing similar increases in usage over a similar period of time, although only when my son is home and his PC is on (pretty much the same thing). I've been away, so haven't figured it out yet. I'm interested to hear what you find.

I disabled Windows updates last week, when I first noticed the increased bandwidth consumption. ;) It was the most obvious culprit.

Check if you had the .NET update (about 170MB)- sometimes it doesn't install and then starts cycling...

BTW: This month has been a record on the size of Windows Update.
I've checked on this PC and Automatic Updates is still disabled.

The PC is firewalled and NAT'ed behind a Mikrotik Routerboard to keep unwanted inbound traffic out and runs ZoneAlarm to keep unwanted outbound traffic in.

I suspect in my case it is something my son has done, but was intrigued by the coincidence of the timeframe and the amount of data used by the OP.

Windows Media Player Network Sharing

Picked up an issue today with the following services UPnP, SSDP and Windows Media Player Network Sharing generating a large amount of traffic.

Suggest you go into the services control panel and disabled the above services.

Even so ronald i only use my pc in the evening mostly during happy hour and i used more then 1 gig last night from my badnwith?

this is why I'm glad I'm still on the old "throttled" packages. Dont care if Iburst mess up the bandwidth.

i think i figured out whats hapening, it looks as if the email reports are capturing a day later, on the night of 01-02 nov i downloaded a bunch of stuff from midnight to about 6am and in the morning on the email report after hours usage showed 3mb( when i definatly dowloaded more like 3000mb), last night i didnt download anything and when i got this mornings report it showed after hours usage at 3000mb

7GB gone just like that at night grrrrrr!

Here is my setup, DC runinng WSUS and Symantec endpoint manager meaning my workstations will get updates from my DC period. I use a Netgear router and wireless is turned off. My client phones me in the morning saying he has lost 7gb at around 8 at night and he said he phoned the guys at Iburst and they confirmed that they saw the 7GB go down, how is that possible that i loose so much in a short space of time.

Depends on what you have selected for WSUS, it could quite easily download that much data in a day - especially with the MS patch Tuesday releases

Is the username & password locked to the iburst unit?

Ask iburst to send you the activity log so you can see what was Down/Up Loaded or at least what sites the data was used on.
