Lost my NaTIS document..:-(

seems like i lost my NaTIS document....what is the best way to go about it?
I suppose I will have to go to a traffic department with my green ID book?
When is a good time to go and which is a good one to avoid queues in the sandton area (I know all of them probably have queues, but for my drivers license renewal i went to midrand and i waited 5 hours, I don't think other traffic department are so bad, so thought i'll check).

Also if i send someone else....what will they need to take?

Just did this last week. As per Google:

Go to your nearest registering authority and bring along your identity document and complete the DRC (Application for Duplicate Registration/Deregistration Certificate in respect of Motor Vehicle) and form DCT (Declaration in respect of Lost Documents). Bear in mind that only a title holder can request a duplicate.

I took a previous licence paper with that had VIN on. Took about 15mins in Fish Hoek and issued immediately. Heard in rest of country the wait can be up to 6 weeks. Joys of living in Cape Town.

Oh, and apparently you have to do this at the registration centre closest to your place of residence? Not sure, as I did not need to present proof of residence.
 
I emailed a few of those places and no one even bothered to come back to me....

I need this document because I am selling the car....so a new document will have to be issued anyways.

Can I rather do a transfer of ownership?
or do I still need that document?

The sadly the finacer, normally the bank can't reissue the forms and afaik you would have to make that trip to get it yourself. Not sure what they require these days.

  1. Goto licence center
  2. Apply for reissue
  3. Wait
  4. Go collect

Of course you need it for the sale and even for transfer of ownership. Don't ****up the forms; double check it was actually transferred before handing over the car/bike/whatever.

Until "saps" showup looking for the real owner / you need to pay license discs fees and its still under your name. Win.
