Old blog post but its still interesting.

Ive stopped playing D3 some months ago but this article seems to nail it for me. Maybe it is how my brain works, but that's just me. Started playing D2 again with the wide screen mod and loving it.

I tried playing again with the new ladder reset, oh gawd, EYE BLEEDING graphics:D Didin't get very far, like level 7, haha there is so much I still want to do in D3: craft a decent hellfire ring, paragon 100 , 100k unbuffed dps WD, farm mp10, the game is a lot different now since 1.0.5, you should give it a crack again, D2 was one of my all time fav's, but its like phoning up an ex girlfriend, time to move on:p

Want D2 remake with D3 engin, interface and ability.

Want same atmosphere.

Want same art type and music.

D3 wasn't bad, well made in fact, problem is Diablo is a franchise type more for the mature audience, playing D3 feels like I'm playing some WoW story telling with angry birds easy mode game play mechanics.

It should feel more serious... if this makes any sense.

Should feel more non-linear imho

Yes dungeon layouts/locations differ slightly, but in comparison to D2 once you've played through D3 on Normal the map layout is identical for each zone

Quite an interesting read. Loved this line "•Old Diablo 2 players will be left frustrated, unsatisfied by the lack of in-game rewards they were craving, and become angry, depressed, and reduced to flinging poo on the Battle.net forums." :D

I never played D2 but did enjoy D3, although I haven't been back to it since. Nowadays, I get my "see monster, kill monster, get reward" craving from games such as Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2 :)

What I didn't like about TL2 is that every 10-30minutes I have to swop out gear because I found better gear already, that feeling of "damn this is godly" is non existent with TL2 because upgrades are found so easily, what you pick up today will be useless tommorow, I dunno maybe its just me, but I don't like RPG's like that

That's what we all wanted actually.

Myself & the kids played D2 for over 5 years, D3 lasted a couple of spotty months.

For me it sort of boils down to this ..

After playing D3 it’s embarrassing for a company like Blizzard to have waited so long to revisit this IP and worse essentially release an intentionally flawed and inferior product to its predecessors.

But if they did that, the other half of the player base would have complained, you can't keep them all happy I suppose, I like the game (and I agree there's a lot of room for approvement) but I would've long since stopped playing should this have been Diablo 2.5

You do raise a good point and I hear what you're saying. TL2 seems to have gone to the other extreme with loot. D3, there's not enough good stuff. TL2; there's too much, too often! I guess we'll never be truly satisfied! Haha

A lot changed in the 5 months since that was written. The rewards are definitely there and the game is more addictive than I would like it to be...

Haha agreed I have virtually no time during the week to play, yet I'll find myself playing D3 atleast 2hours every night, damn diablo:mad:

/facepalm
Intentionally flawed and inferior  You've got to be a special kind of idiot to think that

And no, not at all of us wanted a D2 remake with shiny graphics. This may come as a shock to some people but.... some people dont like the old skill/stat system

That's exactly what Path of Exile is going for.

Played the open beta (On release it will be free to play) and loved the atmosphere...just like the old Diablo 1 and 2.
Dark graphics and serious feel, insanely huge talent tree to make your character seriously unique (Not "D3" unique...gmmf) and even the same Diablo 2 UI to make you feel right at home.

Looking forward to this. (PS. Most youtube vids are from old recorded footage. Looks way better now)

See they have open beta the whole of december, might test it, looks like a decent game

Yeah I was a tad surprised when I saw that too... however, after having looked it over for quite a while I started tracing a route to get to beastly skills.
The devil's in the details - but that's what I enjoyed so much from the early Diablo and WoW - to have the freedom to tweak and tinker (min/maxing) to squeeze out the most out of my char.

Also - can sit at the office and work out "that perfect build"

I can totally see the appeal don't get me wrong.

It's just not for me at this stage in my life I don't think...

like with every game I have tried recently, it never has the nice feeling of accomplishment and fun that I had with the old games.
