for 3rd world countries Zeebo will include separate bluray device that will transmit over 3G to your console.. This will be an optional extra for $500 .....

lolies..

Um.. PS2 is already cornering that market pretty much.
But hey if they cant learn from history..

"The Zeebo will apparently run on a BREW-based OS and house an ARM CPU running at 528MHz, with a Qualcomm Adreno 130 graphics core (?), 1GB NAND flash memory, 160MB RAM, 128MB DDR SDRAM and 32MB stacked DDR SDRAM. Marketed to the "growing middle class" of developing countries, the Zeebo will launch in Brazil, where its developers say the downloadable-content format should help combat rampant piracy. The cost of the system is expected to be 599BRL (about $264) with games costing between 7-30BRL (around $3-13).

if it's running BREW, then I feel sorry for whomever is going to develope for it / support it and whatever, from what I've read about BREW, the costs to have your applications approved/licensed are insane.

Apparently the games cost $10 and download via 3G. What's the current out-of-bundle charge on 3G from VDC nowdays? R1.50/MB ?

So if the game is 250MB and it costs $10 .. R475 per game.

The console is $200 .. isn't that the price of a 360 ?

So you might aswell buy a new 360 or second hand one and second hand games.

FAIL.

If the console cost $100 and the games were all $5 and were developed by small indie game teams, kept under 64MB I think you'd see a burst in indie / platform games.

But $5 a game only works if say, you had a huge market and sales in large numbers.

So you might aswell stick with that Xbox 360.

Or buy a computer, and have access to the a way bigger library of games than you whould with any console

True, altho a console is better for noobs than a PC for just simple gaming IMHO.

hmm..but which one has more educational value? A whole generation of techies were born out initially being interested in pc gaming, and then with the cracking, hacking.patching, modifications and upgrades they learn valuable lessons:D..arghh

This is true, and it's something I've said many times in debates about piracy. While not a means of justifying it, there is a huge amount of skills learnt from it all, and I'm certain 90% of geeks, esp the older generations learnt this way.

hmm..yea I'll admit thats how I learned allot of skills, not having anything near rich parents, and playing on what was then considered old computer I was forced to overclock, crack, copy and tweak the crap out of text files just to get a game going..guess in away you can say in a strange turn of events, a junk PC,a level of poverty, and piracy (yes I copied games, but trust me bought most of the classics I played later on after starting to earn a salary..out of respect)

PS2 has platinum games which aim for exactly this segment. And according to Sony, the PS2 is not going to be phased out anytime soon. I'd rather buy a PC and play MAME arcade games.

You can't get anything near a decent PC for $200, so stop comparing the two. Most people don't have around $500-$1000 just lying around to buy an entry-level PC. They most probably have a TV set available and might be able to muster up $200 for a gaming console. It's all about the price and entry to the market. This console obviously isn't aimed at any MyBB users, so it might seem like a waste of money.

I don't think MyBB members has a need/want for another console. That's not the point. They are pointing out the obvious flaws in the logic of these Californians. If these specs are real:
"ARM CPU running at 528MHz, with a Qualcomm Adreno 130 graphics core (?), 1GB NAND flash memory, 160MB RAM, 128MB DDR SDRAM and 32MB stacked DDR SDRAM"
WTF, crap 20th century tech that they want to smear off on the 3rd world. If one 'might' have $200 then one 'might' own a pc (outdated perhaps - much like 1GB storage is outdated). $500-$1000 gets you a PC that can play any of the latest games. Wait, what dollars are talking about here? :p

so... ARM 11 / QDSP-5 running at 528Mhz... 128 MBytes DDR... Qualcomm Adreno 130 Graphics Core... um, yea right. Processor is useless falmost anything related to gaming, graphics chipset is for mobile solutions and only 128Mb DDR RAM?! I'm sorry but even people in developing markets need something that is worth playing. Newish smart phones have more processing power than that.

I'd love to argue...but you have a valid point there.......
