Hi

I have atm : intel core 2 duo 2.8 , 4gig ddr 800, leadtek gtx 560 1gig 256bit.

Getting on full server 20-30 fps. IS the cpu too slow?

Dont have much funds now since bought the graphics card, 2gig more ram and new 750w PSU.

So thinking of just getting the qaud core 2.5:

Processor Number: Q8300
Number of Cores: 4
Number of Threads: 4
Clock Speed: 2.50 GHz
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Bus/Core Ratio: 7.5
FSB Speed: 1333 MHz
Instruction Set: 64-bit
Embedded Options Available: NO
Supplemental SKU: No
Lithography: 45 nm
Max TDP: 95 W

Will this qaud core help stop the bottel neck of low fps?

Or what would u say must i do?

Thx

There is one on bidorbuy from a Chinese supplier but it will probably take a while to get here.

You will have to browse classifieds as Intel stopped making 775's a long time ago so finding a supplier that stocks it is highly unlikely

Alot of thought is put into the CPU upgrading when it comes to gaming, sometimes it's necessary but most times it's not. Tons of people have their own opinions and beliefs regarding CPU and Gaming but I personally think a Dual-Core CPU should do the trick in most games, but there are some games that require multi-core CPU power like GTA IV or Battlefield 3 in which of cause you'd probably get better performance with more than 2 cores.
You have a really good GPU though, it should take a big load off your CPU when you're gaming but the Core 2 Duo series is quite old, judging by the information you gave regarding your CPU I surmise that you have the Core 2 Duo E7400, if you look at the release date, it came out around 2008 so it's outdated technology, there's much more to a CPU than the stats provided, the processing power should differ by system.
Long story short, you don't need to get yourself a Quad Core CPU if you're on a tight budget, just go with something in recent technology.

I have a simplier system.
Q8200
AMD radeon 7850

And I overclocked my CPU to 2.8GHz, so 20% overclock (2.3ghz stock) and I saw about a 20% increase in FPS, maybe more.

I know BF3 stresses my CPU to breaking point though... So I would recommend getting a new board, cpu and ram... Even the i3 dual cores cream our quadcores.

I recently upgraded from a E8400 to the i3-2120 and I have to say, the difference is staggering. With the same gfx card (460gtx SE) I get between 40-52 fps on a mixture of medium and high settings. Previously I played on low and got 30fps max.

All depends, what settings are you running on?? If you are at 1920x1080 16x AA and 16x anisotropic filtering then obviously your FPS will be low. If not then something else is wrong. I played BF3 with an aging nVidia GTX250 512Mb and Intel i5-750. And it runs smooth on moderate to high gfx settings.
