Lower Back Pain

My mom has been battling really bad back pain(osteoarthritis) to the point where she fell into depression. If you are in CPT, we found Dr Liebenberg, and he knows his ****, very expensive, but know his ****. A couple of months later, where her pain was 15/10, it's now a 4/10 and slowly getting better.

Unfortunatrly in Pretoria. But checked out his page, Very impressive doctor. written 10 books...wow.

I feel you, man. Pain sucks! I have hypermobility syndrome and dislocate even if the living room coffee table just looks at me funny... Both shoulders, knees, jaw, and fingers have been dislocated multiple times with torn ligaments. And I have rheumatoid arthritis which doesn't help either.

One of the best things I've used to manage pain is Kratom, combined with a low-carb diet, THC, and Omega 3 oils. I don't take any other pain meds. Kratom is worth a shot if nothing else seems to be working for you. Just do some research as it affects everyone differently. I take a combination of white/red strains daily to help with ADHD/wellbeing and general pain management. I take it daily for a month until it runs out, then I normally let a month pass before I order the next batch, just to let my tolerance reset.

Wish I could offer a more permanent solution, but this might be a crutch in the meantime.

Hi,
Sorry to hear man, Im glad you found something that at leasts work for you!!

I know kratom, I read about the benifits last year somethime, I then bought 5 or 6 diffrent strains. Unfortunately it did nothing for me, and also not a fan of the taste as you have to use it in poweder form lol, But if it worked I would have eaten it like Milo.

My Grandfather-in-law uses one of these, he has a home-made one, but basically the same thing. It helps him a lot. You strap in your feet and then "hang" upside down i.e. toes up. It looks weird.

This is not medical advice, but from a stretching perspective, it seems to work.

Thanks for the link. Desperately looking for someone to help my wife, even if it means having to fly to Cape Town.

They biokineticist have something similar. You can go hang there for free as much as you like. So worth visiting a local one and see what they have.

The doctor I went to did give me a whole program of exercises and stretches I have to do.
Maybe I gave up too quickly but after doing it +- a month I stopped as the pain was getting worse instead of better. But I will check out youtube, I never actually thought of this.

If anyone does know of a very good doctor in the pretoria area I can go to for a second opinion, Please DM me the details.

Regarding the THC thing. Ja it's a touchy subject. It's difficult when you have been taught your whole life dagga = gagga. But at the end of the day, it's still a difficult choice, Yes I don't notice the pain, or you rather don't care about the pain, But the problem is it affects other aspect of your life. Eventhough I can sleep 8 hours straight, you are extremely tired the next day. You cannot do it every day as your tolerance for THC builds up extremely quickly. And its really not good for your memory. Also when you use it you are pretty useless. So you can only really use it directly before bed time.

CBD I have tried before, but it did absolutely nothing. But there are so many brands out there, not sure if I used a good legitimate brand, or if my dosage was right ETC. If anyone does use CBD for pain and it works, Please DM me the brand and dosage (or post it here so other can also see)

Regarding the turmeric, I did not want to mention this as its unrelated, but I have diverticulitis as well. So I have tried turmeric before, but turmeric and my diverticulitis were not friends at all. It gives me extreme cramps.

I will try the longvida, Ginger and black cumin oil. Never heard of these before. Thank you

It may be worth it to work with a biokineticist to make sure you do the exercises correctly, and to make adjustments if they don't work.

Two of my friends have back issues, the one had an op to fix stuff ( I thought they fused disks, but I was mistaken) and he gets relief if he swims regularly.
The other one has what described to me as "pointy discs", and had to stop running. It took more than 5 years of doing the exercises before he could attempt running again.

From your post it does seem like you are strong though, and with the deadlifts I can't think that your back is weak, but a bio might still be able to help.

This is my Dr in PTA, he's really good: https://drlouw.co.za/

So for scoliosis (and related issues) what needs to happen is that you need to make a comparison between old/new x-rays to see if it's worsening (ie. calculating angles and looking at changes). But there might be other issues at play as well, for example specific discs that are giving problems etc.

They just work off of x-rays until you get to the point where you need to go for an actual operation, then you will get an MRI. Also all the good doctors will never look at surgery as the first solution, but they'll question you about pain severity/location etc.

For myself I was lucky to have never had much pain from my scoliosis, but my angles went from the 30's to the 70's over a few years, after which I had to go for an operation (T3-L3).

Yeah, kratom does seem to be a bit hit and miss! I guess everyone is wired differently. I didn't get many benefits from the red strains unless I was taking 15g+ doses. I found that 4g of white + 4g red each morning mixed with orange juice worked best.

Panamor/Diclofenac Is what I use for my back. Luckily I only have issues once or twice a year.

+1 for https://buykratomsouthafrica.co.za/

Excellent service and knowledgeable people.

So, where about are you?
If in Cape Town, see Dr Raff.

My mother had severe lower back pain as a result of a failed laminectomy many yrs back.

Every test imaginable was done - CAT / MRI / PET, endless blood tests, chiro, ortho, acupuncture, iridiologist - anything and everything - weed too (well the oil) (actually smoking it too, but that's another story for another day). No stone was left unturned, Jhb, DBN & CT.

Raff was the only one to figure it out.

Sucks having a problem with your back with all the nerves. Also sucks trying to find a good specialist who is available. I think there is a shortage of them.

My wife also suffer from extreme lower back pain - osteoporosis.

Went through the Oxy pain relief phase(worked great) but stopped it due to the possible(definite) addiction problems.

She goes for a "nerve block type injection" about twice a year - this works great but lasts for about 3-4 months.
As I understand it ( as explained by my wife) it can be a 2 step procedure.
The one "burns" the nerve to prohibit it from sending pain messages to the brain and the other comprises of cortisone and pain blocking medicine being injected at the point of pain.

She also takes Exinef Etoricoxib 90mg daily.

The above combination seems to work for her - still daily pain but manageable.

I wish you all the best !

I don't normally get back pain, but ive been sitting for long periods of time working.
What's the best thing to use? Can I use Deep Heet?
