Since yesterday I had this pain in my lower back. Its right above my buttocks, right-hand side. If I had to describe it, I'd say its sort of "mechanical", in that I only really notice it when I get up or walk.

I'm no doctor, but I don't think it could be a kidney, as its a bit too low for that.

Now I'm not one to go to the doctor for nonsense, unless I know its serious. So I'll give it a couple of days and see how it goes.

Anybody experience something similar before?

The pain is the result of a botched anal probe done by Ockie while you was asleep :)

In all seriousness though take 5mg diazepam and 10-20mg codiene before bedtime for 3 nights.

If the pain still persists, do the right thing and go see a doctor as it could be an indication of something more serious.

Ockie would have to get past my wife first! :D

Thanks for the advice though :)

Had same, changed matrass and problem sorted itself.

it could be a pinched nerve YingYang.
I think you guys are spot on. We've had our mattress for at least four years now, so I think its time for an upgrade.

Have the same problem here. At first I thought it was my kidneys, but was so relieved when it was not the case.

Turned out the problem was my posture - which caused muscles to spasm. I'm working on it, and it is getting better by the day.

Don't go for a cheap mattress, get a proper one. It will be expensive, but will be worth the money in the long run.

Damn ... should have spent the extra R5.00 :D

No, this is good advice,

I had a Euro ...something or another, and replaced it with A Serta .... solved the problem.

I think that's the mistake I made when I went to buy our current one. We had a double bed and the wife wanted a queen size. I took the cheapest and believed the sales people when they told me its quality

i had the same problem last year. i wasn't sick but my bed had old age syndrome

try turning the mattress over. usually helps to rotate every second month

I had something similar, took a while to sort it out.
Then I did a 3 week stint of non-stop travelling - pain in my back got better, but started going down my leg.
Turns out it was a bulging disc pushing on my nerve.

Dont leave it!
I left it and the disc ruptured.
Sweet mother, the pain.

To anyone else who experiences lower back pain from sore muscles, may I suggest squats and deadlifts?

I used to wake up every morning with back pain, thought it was the bed, but the problem persisted when I changed it.

After two or three sessions squatting and deadlifting, the pain vanished. The exercise wasn't even meant to address that issue, but of course it makes sense that it helps.

@randhir all you need to do is proper stretches

mine sadly takes away the pain for few days and then its back again

I don't know what stretches you do, but I'm going to stick with what's working for me.. Plus there's a ton of other benefits to lifting.

Good quality mattresses should last 10 years.

I used to sleep on the floor in summer with just a woolen blanket underneath me. Thats when I started to develop lower back aches and pains. A good mattress solved that.
