Hi,
I just bought a new Intel Dual Core E 5700 @ 3 ghz,I used to have a Intel E 2160 @ 1.8 ghz.
So I assumed that my performance would be increased, but in games like mafia 2 and gta iv my fps actually drops with 7 fps,no game graphic settings changed

In mafia 2 I used too get average 27 fps on high,1024 x 768 res,anti alising off,anisotropic filter 16x,now i get about 20 fps same settings
I can imagine that with the new harware its suppose to increase
my specs are:

Intel Dual Core E 5700 @ 3ghz
Foxconn motherboard,not sure about model
MSi Nvidia Geforce 9500 GT 512 mb
2 gb ram @ 1333 mhz

thanx!

PSU??

Sounds like heat throttleing??

CPU Temps??

Case using??

Swtiched Operating system?

Stock cooling,but my temps are 26 C and i have a 450 watt PSU

Highly doubt full load temps are 26°C.
Get prime95 and/or intelburntest along with HWMonitor. Let us know what your max temps are under full load.

Doubt its a PSU size issue, since the CPU before and after have the same TDP

Are you using something to test the FPS or just randomly looking around in game?

Why are you running af at 16x?

@ killadoob no i ran both GTA IV and Mafia 2 in game benchmark tests and both showed there was an decrease in fps

Run CPU-z and make sure that the CPU is running at 3GHz. I've seen it quite a few times that Windows XP's power profiles go bonkers and they don't increase the CPU speed as the load increases.

after 4 minutes with the intelburntest my cpu reached 54 C!

54°C is fine, max temp is around 76°C.
Hmmm... could try new drivers but I'd be surprised if it works. No harm in trying though.

The 16x is killing the framerate.

Why you picked that CPU is beyond me...its got a 800 fsb just like your previous one. Nonetheless the framerate shouldn't have dropped.

Download this: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
Install it and select publish snapshot. This will upload your computer specs to the internet and provide you with link that you can paste here. That way we can see whats going on & not working off "Foxconn motherboard, not sure about model".

The reports look like this:

Have a look through yours first to make sure there isn't any info in there that you don't want to share, but the tool is pretty good at stripping out personal info, so should be OK.

54C is still fine.

just ran mafia 2 benchmark again but with af 1x,only get 22 fps average

here it says 400 mhz for the ram,but on the ram itself it says 1333??sorry im new to this and would just like to know what is what for the ram
That is what I've been trying to tell you. The RAM supports 1333mhz, the motherboard support 1333mhz too but the CPU only up to 800mhz.

The 400mhz you see there needs to be multiplied by x2 (DDR=Double Data Rate) giving you 800mhz which if you look at the specs of your CPU you'll see what its rated at. It says 1333 on the RAM because it CAN run that fast, but only if the rest of the hardware supports it.

Still not entirely sure what caused the 5fps drop. The CPU is running as it should and is an upgrade from the previous one albeit a minor one so it is likely that something else caused the drop. What I can't say.

There is some room for overclocking here, but I'd prefer if you ask someone else to help you out there. I don't know enough about it to risk someone else's hardware.

Take a look here:

Not sure what Embedded Options Available means, but perhaps that's where you're lagging?

Otherwise, I know the 2100-series were based off of the core2duo range, not sure what the E5700 is though.

Intel has the price points for them within $1 of each other, maybe the price you pay for the extra clockspeed is lost somewhere else?

E2160 is an older 65nm processor, E5700 is newer 45nm. Some motherboards do not fully support these different cpu's. The cpu may seem to work, but may not perform as expected. A BIOS update MAY offer better support for later cpu's: you will have to determine the model number of your board & check the manufacturers site for more details.

can you plz post a link for the FOXCONN G41mxe bios update?im having trouble finding it! thanks
