Lower interconnect rates: Yay or Nay

Cell-C should be allowed to CHARGE an interconnect fee to the others while none of the others should be allowed to charge AT ALL for a said period of time until the balance has been restored and reparation exacted else a moerse fine must be paid by the others to Cell-C as a once-off then no interconnect fees apply going forward ...

You know what "grates my cheeze" - is that ICASA as an industry regulator and 'supposed' champion of the public are not doing anything about it. Even when the DoC say that fees are too high, they are adamant to "investigate" and basically "bait and switch" to avoid the real issues.

I was thinking about why ICASA is such a lame duck, and its not just incompetence on their side. They get money every year from the profits of the Cellphone and ISP's in the country via ECN licenses etc.

Now, if my salary was being paid based on the amount of profit the people make that I regulate, I will keep those profits high in order to keep that piggy stuffed!

I think its a conflict of interest. ICASA is dependant not on Tax Payers money from the Guavamint, but rather from the licenses that they issue and costs based off turnover... THAT is what the Competition Commission should investigate.

I believe Virgin Mobile is also pro lower fees (didn't they even run a promo along those lines at the end of last year?).

I am sure Telkom has already complained about these high interconnect fees in the past because on a fixed-to-mobile call they have to collect the high fees from their subscribers and pass almost all of the money to the mobile operators. If a customer defaulted on their payment, Telkom then had to carry the can for the whole amount. Maybe Telkom misunderstood the question the way it was asked

I curse thee, nay sayers to the eternal pain and suffering of hell, may your hearts burst, eyes pop out, tongues removed, hair pulled out............ damn i can continue like this for eternity.

Remember, the more profit the "Big Boys", the more tax is paid to the government to pursue whatever; then of course the bosses of the "Big Boys" receive bigger bonuses and pay more tax. TiA (This is Africa)
