clarification
"Normal" account thresholds:
110GB for the 4Mbps version.
70GB for the 2Mbps option
then for the "premium"
200GB for the 2Mbps option
not sure about the rest.
A point to note is this is where shaping/throttling kicks in, your line does not get switched off.
All the ISPs are employing this kind of thing, they have different methods - MWEB is now clearing up how they are doing it which is great news. It makes it much easier as a consumer to pick the right package. For me I switched from a 2Mbps premium to the 4Mbps normal as it fits with my consumption habits.
Webafrica for example create groups of users and throttle according to network conditions based on which group you fall in to.
haha yeah...Trouble is that with the calender month cancellation I have to wait till the end on January
Not gonna go into whether it should be defined as "uncapped" or "Limitless" BUT are these thresholds(silly if you ask me) published and transparent for the consumer to decipher? As in a table format when you visit their website or is it in fine print under terms and conditions?

Nothing about those figures are acceptable.
110gb on a 4mb line is child's play.
Basic HD streaming on Hulu will do that in a few days.

axxess have terrible shaping and throttling policies as well.
Isn't that what Telkom does with their capped accounts? That is is soft cap them and therefore Mweb is basically doing the same and calling it uncapped,we are being ripped off.

Well Telkom Shape the line not cripple it like Mweb.
Afrihost - changed from 4mb uncapped to 4mb 75gig capped and saved R100 p.m. I can't speak for anyone else but I found shaping to be turned on once it appears that I am going to exceed 40 gig for the month. Nothing so bad as to watch your torrent running at 6kbps when you know it could be over 400 kbps.

This year has been bad with shaping, throttling or whatever, canceling my afrihost this month. Torrents during the day down to 6KB/s when I used to get 180 - 250KB/s. I even had to restict my download speed because I could not work during the day. Now they do it for you, and by the look of things they are all doing it. So I am looking at the cheapest 4MB ADSl uncapped, can't be any worse than afrihost 6KB/s download. Oh yes, never get a bundled ADSL and ISP, the hassle you will get trying to change your ADSL back to telkom is just not worth the saving. This way if you are experincing poor speeds from your ISP might as well move to the cheapest - who is that oh don't tell me it's telkom?

Sure, but at least now you know what that limit is! Now you can make a decision ahead of time you use a different ISP instead of getting caught out mid-month. I am sure this will change in time (the actual limit), but for now it is good to know what that is.
Maybe you prefer the WebAfrica method, the Telkom method, Afrihost method etc. As noted I am now going to be able to directly compare Afrihost to MWEB on the same exchange, so hopefully in a month or so I can provide some feedback on how the two perform head-to-head.
I am trying to avoid the definition of uncapped argument here, rather just sticking to what the ISPs are using as their definition. If you want true uncapped you need a business account (unshaped, unthrottled). For all the home accounts you are always going to have to deal with some sort of bandwidth management in order to get the good prices, so there is really no point in trying to win the uncapped definition argument with ISPs.
A note, I think the MWEB limits are on the low side, but for now it works for my current consumption vs price. If either changes, back to the drawing board.

Bern, I am easily getting 320 gb + on a 2mb line with Telkom.
Just been upgraded to 4mb and that cap has virtually doubled.

I don't really do any torrenting, just streaming shows directly, so doubt my usage will ever get that high.
My aim is to get the best quality connection and pay the least for my consumption habits. Previously MWEB have been very good, I actually had a better quality streaming experience on my 2Mbps line than an Afrihost 4Mbps uncapped, but that was when they were on IS and then the early MTN backbone. Also it was to a limited set of sites, so in no way an indication of the overall service from both, MWEB just performed better for me.

hmm I am going to need to find someone on my exchange using them and get some figures to directly compare. Right now the MWEB price/performance is working for me, but need to keep an eye on the options.
