LP Gas Shortage

So, we should use LP gas to save electricity, but we need electricity to produce LP gas....
LP? Is this the one that is piped in or the one in cylinders?

I cannot talk for piping - cylinders are LP gas AFAIK.

We do not have piped in gas where I live.
Thanks - I might as well pick up a new 14kg from the hardware store - that, plus what I have left in the current one, should last well into next year. :)

Perhaps take 2 x 14kg cause there are shortages coming...

It's unclear when several Caltex petrol stations will be refuelled.

Managers at Caltex garages have told 702 Eyewitness News that petrol pumps at stations on the East Rand and in Johannesburg are dry.

A Caltex manager says he has been forced to turn away customers from his East Rand petrol station because his pumps have been left completely dry.

He says he has not received a delivery of petrol or diesel for a week now and that at least 10 other Caltex stations in the area are in the same situation.

He says he was told a new computerised billing system at Caltex is causing the delivery delays.

Meanwhile, Caltex says it is experiencing service delivery problems, but the fuel supplier has not elaborated on the issue.
Bit early in the year for there to be a fuel crisis isn't it?

Same here ... and need to regas the heater bottles!

Perhaps everyone filling up their tanks ahead of today's price hike exasperated the situation?

I for one believe this [petrol] "shortage" is the usual panic buying and price increase etc.

It is too early for there to be serious shortages as a result of the power crisis last week.
The next one[shortage] will be related to last weeks problems.

I'm already cooking on gas... I don't think people realise how long a bottle of gas actually lasts.
Only my hobs are gas (electric oven) and our initial 14kg bottle lasted well over 6 months (probably closer to 8).

When I refilled it I opted for the next size up so that should see me well into September and by getting a spare most of 2009 is sorted. Hopefully by then they'll have sorted themselves out. :)

I used to run gas, but the way the gas price was claiming is not worth it anymore.

Then again I'm on electricity now and have to reply on Eskom :(

The benefits of cooking on gas far outweigh the price difference (though I'm certainly not convinced electric is cheaper).

where to get the large gas bottles?

i am looking for those large gas bottles. larger than the 9kgs. they are not available at the garages. recently moved into a new place with gas oven and gas fire place.

where do i order them for delivery etc? i am in the ct cbd.

This thread started back in Feb - is anyone experiencing much of a shortage in their area?

Yup... shell in sunninghill was fresh out last night. I went to get a fresh cylinder for the gas braai. Luckily I've got two so the refill can happen today at another spot

Yeah - even before the reports of a possible shortage I've kept a spare for just such an emergency. Even though I keep a 9kg in reserve the little cadac bottle I have can run the braai or the stove for a couple of days.

A gas braai is such a waste of money, i'm so sorry i baught the thing. Its all cool until you have to clean the thing. Thats when i start cursing.
