What are the possibilities of this being available (allowed) here in SA?

Good for disaster situations where infrastructure has been compromised!

Interesting... Our phones have Wi-Fi direct, albeit, haven't used it.

This is a part of the project for intercepting your communication in the countries with unfriendly government. A part of this project is just enabled for commercial use.
