LTE Speeds - UK :)

Interesting to note that we have world class speeds in the mobile arena. Actually, we seem to be ahead of the curve...wow. Can it be true?

the global average for HSPA is only around 1.5Mbps, thats data from about 150+ networks world wide

Thought I'd just rub it in a bit  - just had LTE enabled on the O2 network in the UK.

Getting some great speeds! :)

That's pretty slow, I've been getting 30+Mbps on O2 (give them time, it's still a pretty new network).

This is more like the speeds on a more stable network:

Now we're talking. That is one insane upload speed. We do not get those upload speeds here.

For Telkom Mobile it's 7Mbps up and for MTN it's around 21Mbps up. MTN also limit the upload on some towers though.

I've seen demos of Telkom Mobile doing 100Mbps download. I've only ever got up to 73Mbps though but I'm over 1km away from my tower.

I've just done a quick O2 test, more what I would expect (the O2 4G network is only 4 or 5 months old, so still really in launch phase).

Any desktop speeds on those networks? I've found that my own desktop speeds are quite a lot faster than a mobile device, even if it's on a WiFi network driven by an LTE router.

I don't have an LTE dongle or router so can't do it now, not sure if there are any lying around at work. If I do get my hands on one I'll test it with a laptop.

So being on a mature LTE network, what's it like when the T-Mobile towers get congested? Everyone keeps wondering here what it's going to do for LTE users but I think it's going to be a long time before everyone is on LTE.

EE (as it's now called) has around 2 million 4G customers now, and touch wood so far I haven't experienced congestion (that 79 down 27 up result was actually around midday in a city centre, so prime congestion place and time).

EE also has the advantage of having twice the base stations it needs as it's a merger of 2 mature 1800Mhz networks (Orange and T-Mobile) that were allowed to convert a big chunk of 1800 to LTE almost a year before the other networks were able to launch late last year, they've since bought both 800Mhz and 2600Mhz in the government auction so probably have more spectrum than they will need for a significant period.

Lovely. Was really hoping to stay on LTE and not go back to ADSL in a couple years. Also in the 6 months I've been using a fixed LTE installation, I've seen definite improvements and more stability on the tower. Now we just need a denser network of LTE towers.

Well if anything, it'll be 10x faster than the UK...
