Ok so here is the thing, I have an S3 which is due for upgrade.
Im bored with android, been through a bunch of phones. Bored with iOS, been through a few of those and have 2 ipads.
So Im going to give WP a go and see what its all about. Im keen on the Lumia 1520 but the contract pricing on it isnt great. Vodacom have it at R449, Cell C R429 and MTN R469.
So I checked FNB and they have it at R365 pm. Now I dont use much airtime as it is my current MTN anytime 200 has R2k in carry over airtime.
So do I get it on FNB or just upgrade my contract and be done with.
Any thoughts?

I've had mine for a couple of months now and I just love this phone.
After moving from a Note 2 it took some time getting used to but I find it refreshing.
The screen is amazing and the camera top notch. I don't carry my dedicated camera with anymore.
On the contract side i would rather go for prepaid as this phone does use more data than android powered phones, and you might just get a surprise if you dont keep your eye on the usage.

I really like the phone, I played around on one for a bit and it was super responsive.
The camera is great too.

Get it via FNB and either downsize the contract and take a no phone option or move to prepaid

I was also thinking along those lines. The way prepaid is moving at the moment its much cheaper than being on contract.

If you take with FNB, you will need to buy a data bundle. So 365 plus maybe an extra 100 or 200 rans for a data bundle each month. With the contract, you get the phone, and you get airtime, sms and data. If you calculate it over 24 months, it will cost you more going with FNB.

Yeah I looked at that, I have wifi at work/home/parents/inlaws etc etc so I use a 75mb bundle which is R29 pm on prepaid.
Other than that I have landlines wherever I am and only really call when Im travelling for work. So Im estimating R50 pm on airtime/data will be a lot.

A Smart S costs R449 including the phone and R129 with SIM only. It makes more sense to go with the phone and SIM in this case.

Unless of course the contract is an overkill. Then take a look at the SIM only uChoose flexi 50 at R29 or flexi 100 at R69

Personally I think the Smart S deal is the best in terms of value for money as the extra monthly costs give you a whole lot more than the lower priced contracts

I have the Lumia 1320 and it is a excellent phone. One awesome thing is the battery I was very busy at work today and almost did not use my phone. My battery was at 96% after 12 hours with wifi and locations on and the 1520 is even more battery efficient.

You can't go wrong with the 1520. If its possible just go prepaid and stay away from contracts. Go for FNB.

Only problem with that is that you still end up spending on phone calls and data

As i said above. Fnb is okay, but the difference in price is not that big. The good thing with the contract is convenience, and also getting the airtime, sms and data.
