Lumia 800 battery fix

Thanks glad they are looking at the problems.

Any idea when we will see it in SA, I see it is popping up all over the world with good reports, Vodacom however are clueless as usual and unfortunately it is an operator specific update.

I was thinking the same as this update fixes alot of mess ups they left in the product so this is a ciritcal update. I have poked Nokia SA and Vodacom on Twitter to see what they say.

I will try get an official statement, but up until now our SP's have had no say in what updates come.
They are too small to be considered real carriers. This may have changed with Vodacom having a deal with Nokia. But I reckon it shouldn't be too long before we receive it.
There is always the update trick

Contacted Nokia RSA via Email as to the release date of this update for RSA, the only results so far after 4 days is silence. The "Update Date" trick did not work for me.

I am struggling to get answers on when this week firmware (1600.2487.8107.12070) will be released in SA as posted by Nokia this week :(

The new Lumia 800 update brings the following enhancements:

• Enhanced battery standby and talk time performance

• Battery capacity icon instead of question mark on top right of screen

• Improved bass in audio performance

• Soft-key illumination at all brightness levels

• Fixes for device performance issues including self-reboots, freezes and call-ending

This an extract from the GM Nokia RSA concerning the release of the lastest SW Update.
Quote: We have just begun the software update rollout for the Lumia 800, beginning with India and Singapore, and will add more variants gradually over the coming weeks to the distribution. The full rollout will be spread over more than 6 weeks, and it therefore can take some time until you see an update available for you. UnQuote
Lets it hits our shores soon.

My patience is running thin for something that suppose to be a critical fix in my eyes for this phone. Shoould have gone for a Galaxy Nexus instead.

Anyone else notice this phone eating away huge chunk of your data usage per month for some reason? I am basically turned alot of things off, but something is still using lots of data. My one pet hate at the moment is you cant use Nokia Drive offline even if you downloaded the maps. It still need to connect to internet to find the place you want to navigate too.....

@diegoa I think you will be pleasantly surprise soon with that update. As far as the "Nokia Drive" offline maps, I have RSA maps downloaded and installed on the device and it only works with the network on implying that the device is using Satellite part of the Radio RX/TX of the phone and not your 3G Radio RX/TX part to connect to the installed RSA Maps. The opposite being that your 3G Radio RX/TX is communicating with the Maps stored in the Nokia Cloud Map service when maps are not installed on the device.I hope you have a better understanding of the system now.:D

WRT the maps, they did mention that they would update to not require a connection - no timeframe.

Good... its literally the only thing that bugs me about my phone really.. the battery doesn't last long enough for my liking.

I think the SW update is only as good as the Network quality, I will try explain by way of example. The BTS (where your 3G/GPRS signal is transmitted from) and your Lumia 800 will decrease its RF Power output with reduced battery current drawn when you are close to the BTS, but the opposite happens when you are far from the BTS causing your Lumia 800 to increase the battery current drawn eg. from 50Ma when close and 250Ma far from the BTS resulting in a shorter battery usage. It is be remembered that that your Lumia 800 is incontinuess sync and pinging the BTS in the area to maintain connectivity. The networks will never admit that the problem lies at their end even if cornered :)

There has been an update to both Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive as well. So you will now have complete offline navigations & speed alerts :)

Wish they would make apps for gauging your data usage and power usage and also give details on how much space pics, vidoes and apps they currently using on the phone.

Found that certain apps is the cause of higher battery current drain like eg. GPS Info etc. so be carefull using some apps.
