The Legend
At 186g, the Lumia 920 is heavier than its rivals.
Essential communication features such as email and SMS are hampered by a keyboard you can't abide. There's no haptic feedback, for example, and the predictive text often seems to miss the mark.
It's annoying that you have to go to a separate screen of letters if you want to use an apostrophe, something you need frequently.
You will be disappointed by the browser in Windows Phone 8; it lacks maturity, especially some of the advanced features taken for granted in Firefox Mobile or Chrome on Android.
On top of this, the browser deals with some redirects strangely. For instance, when you try to join a public or open Wi-Fi network that requires a splash-screen login, it sometimes leaves you unable to connect. The phone just will not connect.
The other elephant in the room is the app store. Availability of apps really is one of the weakest points of Windows Phone 8, and everyone knows it. It's not about sheer volume of apps, the problem is there are so few of the ones you would use the most. The most frustrating thing is the knowledge that if you are looking for a specific app, it won't be available yet.
While the Lumia 920 has near-field communications (NFC) built in, you won't be able to use it for mobile payments.
Nokia Maps, for example, you will find yourself wishing for Google's Maps software.
Microsoft's mobile OS has bad flaws that need rectifying before the handsets running it will truly be up to speed.
You cannot have a wall paper picture of your loved one.
You will not like the Lumia 920 overall.
Return it!
Have you actually used the phone? You can't use a personal picture for a wallpaper? Google Maps over Nokia Maps?
Horse-crap, the 920 has it's own issues sure but most of what you've written is from a Android fan-boys perspective.
The phone is heavier, true.
Windows Phone 8 has one of the best out-of-box keyboards ever. You don't have to download swiftkey etc. to get a decent typing experience.
Haven't noticed the WiFi login screen problem where did you find this? Used my phone at NewsCafe's and Mugg&Bean with no issues.
Apps? Do we have 1 million fart apps; No but if you need something you almost always find what your looking for.
NFC payments are being looked at but with South Africa's slow uptake on take by the time this is a reality the iPhone 10 will be out.
