Anyone on the data usage?

Space bar is smaller if you have two keyboards loaded (keyboard language packs) - delete the one, the American, and load British. - the button for switching languages disappears, and should be a bigger space bar.

Anyone on the data usage?

So I turned on mobile data today as my 750mb data bundle was loaded. I was in the office where there is constant wifi available and even with this I have used 50mb of data and battery will last from 8am to 4pm.

Only data usage was email syncing and some forum browsing. No pictures or contacts were added or edited that would require upload to skydrive. At this rate I would need a minimum of 1.5gigs per month.

My options now are to turn mobile data off while at work or at home and only enable it when I'm driving or not in these two locations. I dont always have my HTC Flyer around for the mobile hotspot.

Updates can download huges files (limit 50mb). i've had over 17 apps needing updates on my phone.

Facebook, and facebook integration (downloading contact pictures can chow bandwitdth)

Is the wifi connected?

Has anyone experienced a problem connecting to a recognised wifi network?

Yesterday afternoon, the phone would not connect to my home network. It would ask for the password but would say it was incorrect. All my other devices were still connected to the wifi network without issues. Restarted and rebooted the phone and router but nothing worked. This morning, it connected fine but this afternoon, it could not connect again. I've googled and found that some people have experienced this.

Has anyone else had this happen? If so, what did you do to fix it?

WiFi was on permanently and sufficient signal. I'm thinking that it does not prioritize WiFi over mobile data. My N8 allowed me to prioritize certain connections over others.

Goto http://whatismyipaddress.com/ on your phone and look what ISP you are. Mine definitely prioritizes WiFi over 3G. Do you have Portico? If so, goto WiFi settings and tell it to always keep WiFi on.

I ordered a replacement lcd/glass online
Can't deal with the Nokia care guys, they all so expensive :(

Interested to know - if anyone has upgraded from the Lumia 900 to the 920, and if so what has been the experience? Is WP8 really as awesome and different as it looks?

I moved from 900 to 920. In terms of hardware, it's similar except that it's also got the curved glass of the 800. One of the things I hated about my 900 was that it didn't have curved glass. The camera is great, and the phone feels even more solid than the 900.

In terms of software, I think the best summary would be that a user coming from WP7 to WP8 will be more impressed than from iPhone/Android because you will notice all the tiny little things they changed and how much attention to detail they've paid. It's an awesome jump, and I would highly recommend it.

Thanks rougemat - played the 920 earlier in the week - it feels much more premium than the 900 and did notice a few nice features that i wish was on the 900. (Also the camera is insane) I suppose that major changes are in the kernel and that will be great for the ecosystem and dev work going forward. Will def be looking at upgrading in the near future.

Spoke to Nokia this morning, they told me I have to contact MTN about the approval of the update.
MTN says contact Nokia for update approval.

Bunch of monkeys! Going to "Refurbish" my phone this afternoon with the Vodacom rom seeing as they are getting the updates.

Did you manage to update using the vodacom rom?

Yes, "refurbished" using the Vodacom rom and everything is working so far, even got LTE option under Mobile now.
Only niggle is that the date&time doesn't auto-set on the Vodacom Rom. Rest is working fine.

Yet another reboot now, this time I was actually using the phone. Was busy listening to music with a WhatsApp conversation. Sent a response, locked the screen and music played for another 20secs then died with the phone's Nokia boot screen following shortly after.

This is starting to get frustrating as I was used to this with a custom android rom but have not been expecting this instability on a full retail "ready for market" product.

The only plus side I noticed since the update is now it does not loose the date and time like it used to.

This rebooting thing is caused by a networks and not the device in my view. Why do I think so? These devices operate via a network on mobile data systems that at times lose network quality ie. high latency, slow to no through put on U/L and D/L and Packet loses within the mobile/radio system. When one or more of these things occur then your device shuts the U/L and D/L movement data door (Ring Fence) the device by rebooting as a safety mechanism. It must be remembered that with ANY data connection we have U/L and D/L handshaking operation(Radio Packets) , without this there can be no connection. If the networks will ever openly admit this is another story/forum topic for another day. This is just my 2 cents worth.

So it's not the users fault anymore, you've moved on to blaming the networks? At what point will you just accept WP8.0 in its current form is far from perfect

@Nivek - Please try and disprove my prognosis, these are only thoughts that just might be the answer!!

Yes the source of the problem is most likely caused by a lack of reception, hence why its a lot worse when you are using LTE in SA due to the lack of proper coverage in most areas. However even if that is so my issue is with how the OS deals with the problem. Coming from my Galaxy S (1) running jelly bean I can say that its not a unique problem to windows phone 8. However the difference is how the OS will deal with it. On my lumia the phone reboots (not my issue) but then does not reactivate the SIM connection once done. On my galaxy S this also happens. However once it reboots it automatically will re-establish a cellular connection and operate as intended. If the nokia would just bloody vibrate like crazy when prompting for a pin (for a while) I would not have an issue with it. The lack of connectivity is.

If only the ignore list would also filter quotes, I would then not have to end up reading Ivanr's posts in other peoples threads.
