Lumia 920 Thread

Anyone else got issues with nokia maps?
My gps finds my location without a problem, if i search for a destination then it finds it 100%.
It even maps the route out, but from there it freezes.
It doesnt track me moving or update the speed etc.

I have to reboot the phone to get it working...its pretty annoying

Mine does this when the Network Latency deteriorates with slow through put.

I'm also interested in screen protector and cover, but haven't been able to find one that looks decent and thin.

Might order one from wpcentral soon. Really don't want my phone scratched.

i bought a nice slim cover from Autopage Cellular @ the Glen Mall.
its has soft inner lining ➕ and has nice smooth matte-ish finish on the outside.
it covers the back and sides nicely with openings but the volume , power and camera buttons.
The top and bottom of fine is open.
Cost: R180

Screen Protector:
Pros: nice and thin and its clear, there's also a matt finish which i didn't prefer.
Cons: it smaller than the lumia 920 screen :(. its listed for Lumia 920 screen but obviously they haven't tested it.
also bought from Autopage Cellular

That's odd - presuming you have the maps downloaded it should be using the network at all.
Yes at the time the maps were not installed on the phone, installing put an end to this problem.

my maps are downloaded to the device.
Like i said, the gps finds my location quickly, the maps plot the route, and then nothing happens, the gps doesnt update the speed or distance travelled. IT doesnt seem to track that i am moving.

If i go out and back in the app again, it picks up my new location, and does the same thing.

@Syntax - This is just my view and it might be what you want to read or not read but here goes.
  • These devices are manufactured in a lab with perfect wireless communications.
  • Maps installed on the device thus we have wireless/ radio frequency communication from and the device to the satellite's in space in order for the GPS to work.
In conclusion we have a perfect device controlled like a PC operating in an imperfect wireless/ radio frequency running in an imperfect wireless/radio frequency system. The Garmin Gps suffers from this type of signal lose at times, my own Garmin as well.
It is to remembered that these clever app creators develop these applications for a 100% perfect device operating within a perfect conditions. The radio frequency/wireless system is not as perfect, filled with packet loss and latency fuelled by poor signal to noise ratio etc.

Since this is a thread with Lumia 920 fans, please give me some reasons not to sell my phone. I've had it 2 months now and small simple things that my Galaxy S2 could do this phone can't. Last night I even started playing with my S2 again. In the beginning I extolled the virtues of the 920 and the Windows Phone 8 platform, but I'm starting to doubt.

Put the S2 away.

Cos if you load Jelly Bean on it, the Lumia 920 will go straight to the bottom drawer.

Yes, it's that good.

My Lumia was freezing/rebooting anywhere between 2-4 times a day. It did it in pairs. So if it rebooted, it would reboot again ten minutes later. If it froze, it would freeze again ten minutes after resetting it. I got tired of it eventually, so I took it back to MTN. They booked it in, did a "software upgrade," and I haven't had a freeze/reboot since. It's been a little over two weeks now.

Ok, so, after the fourth time of taking my lumia 920 in for software upgrades, Vodacom finally realised the phone they gave me was a dud. So, they credited me and I got a s3 lte instead. It's not pretty like the lumia, but, it does not freeze on me. Yay!

So, I have a brand new red wireless charging plate and official nokia lumia 920 cover. I'm willing to sell both at 65% of current retail value. Both are in great conditn and the wireless charger is back in its box.

If anyone is interested, pm me.

How big is the update? My phone can no longer connect to my wifi so would have to download it using mobile data.

Would this issue be fixed with the update?

i updated wednesday night and it downloaded 100% but gave an error trying to install update.
I then reset the fone back to factory, redownloaded the update and it then installed it.

next 2 day i seen the fone keep losing network every now and then, and its set to Automatically Network Selection.
The fone was still getting very hot (@ the back on top of camera) after about 20mins of whatsapp'ing and mainly when browsing the net.

i decided to reset fone once again and seen no network lose yet.
sold the phone the next day.

luv the 920 but until the heating issue gets resolved i would not get another 1.

On the windows forums and nokia forums it seems the heating issue is not an isolated issue and along with battery drainage issue. Many users experiencing the above issue/s an the heat is not just a slight amount, it gets so hot @ times the fone restarts and its hard to hold the fone in the hand.

i had NO 3rd party apps besides whatsapp on my new 920 and still had excessive heating issues.
from my experience when browsing the internet via web browser thats when heating got intense.

is been said the OS is the issue. hope it gets solved soon.

Awesome phone and i would definetly get another 1 once issues has been resolved

I have a (Unbranded= Country Variant) model now updated with Portico experiencing reboots when Vodacom's data network has HIGH LATENCY and SLOW THROUGHPUT. I have also noticed that if the ACCESS POINT on the device is set to LTE APN(Access Point Name) if in the Cape Town Area where we do not have a dedicated LTE APN SERVER for Vodacom at present, the data network latency and throughput is even slower (Presently one Vodacom LTE APN server in Randburg only, servicing all LTE areas) resulting in more reboots and connection problems. Vodacom is fully aware of this LTE APN server problem and planning more LTE APN servers country wide as soon as links are completed. Until then the use of "internet.apn" has to do the job.
As far heating up this is not a problem as it is to be expected when surfing or any IM service anyway, there is higher current (Ampere Drain) from the power supply.
I like the device and the OS that is a handy everyday business tool that improves productivity.

I used my galaxy tab as a hotspot, and did my update that way. Was about 200mb give or take.
