The other day I received a pop-up message inviting me to subscribe to some WASP service - I pressed "NO" (I was very careful to select the correct option: NO), yet the next pop-up told me that I pressed "YES" and to confirm to continue.

I immediately restarted the phone without touching the screen.

A few minutes ago I received confirmation that I was subscrbed at R5.00/day!

This is nothing less than THEFT, and ILLEGAL to boot!

WTF, VODACOM?????????????????????

I have since cancelled any/all WASP services

OP got stung

Only way to solve this and its godawful:

Find the ussd code to start unsub

Then from that menu you must go through all the items and sub items and go tsjek jou naai for each and every one one by one

Time consuming but after explicitly opting out of all possible things - I never ever got that kak again.

What ussd code is to start I can't remember.

You can just select the option to unsub from all services.

That was the way it used to work. It is now much simpler:

To cancel all subscriptions: *135*997# - choose option 2

To block any new subscriptions (all numbers): *135*997# - choose option 3

Does that also opt you out of these kind of ****? Unsub isn't same as opting out - what I actually meant to say but I see I used words unsub…

That's why I left Vodascum. I cannot fathom why anyone would still use WASPS. It's purely for scamming money out of people now.

I cancelled them all, but somehow got resubscribed. Then went to Vodashop and they blocked it all. Seems WASPS are enabled by default on Vodacom.

Happened again, so I went to the same Vodashop to cancel my contract so I can port to Telkom. Then they said they can't do it there, and gave me a number to phone.

Clowns.
