MTN subscription scam on 5g contract.

Ever had R2k deducted n a R450 CONtract?
Lol. Look I agree with what you said, but you're the consumer who will be negatively affected.

Not enough money? You're still going to have to pay, unless you can get the disputes sorted out ASAP. And as for banks, not their problem.

I would have expected better responses on a forum like this.
First thing when you enter into a CONtract ike this is to open a new "cheap" bank account and make sure there's only enough money in the account to cover the debit order and fees - no subscriptions.
The moment you see one of these scams report it to ICASA, and more important, to your bank, as fraud. (ICASA is as useless as t!ts on a goose.)
Banks don't like fraud...
Lay a charge at your nearest SAPS, and nag them every Monday, Wednesday and Friday about progress - and copy IPID. (Actually received sensible responses from them!
Better responses from who though, there's no rep on this forum?
You need 3 months bank statements to be vetted for a contract too, your advice isn't sound.

I recently signed up for one of of their Shesh @ 600 month to month contracts. I got a new 5G router delivered to me yesterday. This evening I'm checking the messages on the router and found that I have been subscribed to MYMINIMALIST at R3.00/day. WTF is MYMINIMALIST???

I did not subscribe for %^&*ol ! No one was even home when it was subscribed. And no one but me has the Wifi password to it yet. Is MTN scamming people with these WASP services? Makes me want to cancel the contract. I used *123# ussd to unsubscribe but I want this **** removed permanently.

@Jan
I'd report these companies to WASPA, they're like the ICASA of WASPs - https://waspa.org.za/report-unwanted-billing/
It's really annoying when these things pop up, happened to me a couple of years back :cautious:

If they not a member of WASPA, then too bad.

Also, why do WASPS still exist.
I know, right? Remember those irritating 35050 ads? Wow :laugh:
Those OTPS you get from various institutions, including your bank - WASP
Bulk notifications from the government or a political party that you possibly permitted to spam you (unwittingly, trust me..) - WASP
There are other functions they perform, but you get the gist. For the most part I regard them as relics from a long time ago, it baffles me as to how they survive nowadays, perhaps through these kinds of practices..

Users can block premium-rated services such as WASPs by following the steps below:

  1. Dial *136*5#
  2. Select option 2 (Content Services)
  3. Select option 2 (Manage Premium Rated Services)
  4. Select option 2 (PRS Charges)
  5. Select option 1 (Block PRS Charges)

Not relevant anymore?

Tried blocking subscriptions ?

That seems useful too:

  • MTN
    • MTN
    • Check/manage subscription services by dialling *141*5#
      • Dial *141*5#
      • Select option 2 (Content Services)
      • Select option 1 (Manage Content Services to view or cancel subscriptions)
      • Select option 2 (Manage Premium Rated Services to set spend limits for PRS or opt out of PRS marketing)
    • Block PRS charges by dialling *155#
      • Dial *155#
      • Select option 99 (more)
      • Select option 4 (Block/Unblock future charges)
      • Select option 2 (Premium-rated services)
    • Block PRS marketing by dialling *155#
      • Dial *155#
      • Select option 3 (Stop third party messages)

There is no option to completely opt out. I have set my spending limit to R1 for "premium" services via USSD. R1 is the lowest amount it allows me to specify. Will see how it goes.

When dialing *155# :

I select "3. Stop third party messages"

Then it wants to unblock WASPs, so as stated previously it is already blocked and yet I got subscribed twice in 2 days since getting the router and sim.

MTN subscription is a scam.
I have signed up.on Theusday for a mtn 4g/ 5g month to month 10 mbs uncapped "contract" for R 295 per month.
