DesiVideoGamer writes "Over at Overclock.net, a user has posted screen-shots from Microsoft's 'ExpertZone' training course entitled 'Linux vs. Windows 7.' This course is available to BestBuy employees and will make them eligible for a $10 copy of Windows 7 upon completion." The screenshots linked show at least some creative interpretations of the state of Linux vs. Windows on a wide range of things, from media playback and video conferencing to ease of updates to (of all things) keeping your PCs "safer." Most of the claims, though, aren't concrete enough to be perfectly refuted. Writes DesiVideoGamer, "I think I now know why, when I enter BestBuy, the employees say the odd lies that they do."

It's a pity the screenshots are not available right now. They're all replaced with "bandwidth exceeded" messages from photobucket.

Do I smell conspiracy here? Could it be that the "evidence" is copyrighted material.... or has the guy's bandwidth really run out?

Not surprising, Stallman was not allowed to give a speech at a university due to pressure from Microsoft.

"The "Matware" site has a brief article (in Spanish) stating that a planned talk by Richard Stallman at the Argentinian National Technological University, Mar del Plata, has been canceled as the result of contracts signed with Microsoft. Said contracts, it is said, prohibit the university from criticizing the company or its products. English translation is available via Google."

It got Slashdotted.. most likely a real bandwidth exceed.

In the US, even copyrighted material can be used in such a situation. It's protected speech under Fair Use clauses.

This is lame - where are all the M$ fanbois out there now !!! If LINUX is such a threat to what is being touted as the best Windows release yet, then why the fear. Heck even this LINUX Fanboi cannot wait to get his hands on the retail Windows7.

I wonder: Is is that LINUX is getting better and easier, or is Windows getting worse and harder to use?

Oh my word... if those are the best "facts" Microsoft can come up against Linux.. its in more trouble than even I realized.

That lying slide show actually kinda highlights how badly Microsoft is off to Linux. Im starting to wonder if Windows 7 will be the last dominant OS released by them unless they are able to come up with some or other revolutionary concept invented by someone else and snaked by them.

The days of the MS OS as the only dominant desktop.. is slowly fading (though this presentation implies thats an out of control free fall).

I love that instead of "True" or "False" it's "Fact" or "Myth"
Because the clearly can not to prove it's false.

They're the ones creating myths.

I most strongly object to the one which says Linux have no parental controls

...nothing can touch Dansguardian :D

And I'm only taking a very wild stab here, but something tells me that you will not get that $10 Win7 unless you utterly denounced Linux.

this has surprised me somewhat. i hadn't realised that MS were that wary of Linux.

Think I agree with w1z4rd, Windows 7 will be Microsofts last big OS.

Im much more excited about Ubuntu 9.10 than Windows 7.

You know, while I am an ardent support of all that is open-source, I don't mind competition, but these tactics by MS/BestBuy are really below the belt.

Regarding the updates in Ubuntu, doesn't it separate the Optional/Critical/Security updates. I've never really looked THAT closely, I just implement ALL the updates it recommends. I just check the size to see how much bandwidth I am going to use.

Maybe its just me, but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Firstly, try to think of ONE software company that does not have a FUD sheet on their competition?
Secondly, MS will be a dominant desktop OS for a very long time, thanks to the corporate support. From a technical point of view, Linux and MS are comparable; and this is where most people make a comparison. From a business point, it is a lot harder to justify moving from MS to Linux....

No, it doesnt. It make more business sense if you only have MS techies, but its cheaper in cost to setup Linux desktops and maintain them than it MS desktops.

Which is why you find so many of the major corps running their dumb terminals on linux and most of their big servers are on linux.

If your user is a normal computer user at a company and needs the normal.. email, office applications and a card game then linux offers all that (without the need for a costly antivirus).. for nothing.

If you have no skilled labour and only have MS techies.. then yeah.. it would make more sense to go with MS machines so your techies have a clue.

Another anti-M$ article on a Linux website. Surprising  ANd when I quote something from ZDNET, I'm told they're M$ shills, not to be taken seriously.
