Hi there

I was given an Mnet Decoder recently and wanted to know how to get it set up, do I just call DSTV and say I have the mnet decoder and then have them turn on the signal (obviously pay the R 260 +- monthly) ?

The other question is would I need a dish and if so is it the usual dstv dish?
 
is the mnet decoder the same as the dstv decoder? the reason i ask is your thread heading says mnet decoder yet you mention dstv.
 
No it's the MNET decoder that was used before DSTV arrived.
 
Nope, no dish required.
Instructions are in the manual that came with it.

Phone them and they hook u up.
 
ok like mine i guess. i would think you phone the call centre and give them the number of the machine and have it put on for you and you connect it up to a normal aerial. i think thats how its done, i did mine years ago.

No, you do not need a dish, but you do need a normal TV Aerial that can pick up E-TV, SABC, etc. The M-net Decoder gets its signal from the TV aerial.
 
MNet is part of DStv's package, that's where the confusion comes in. Effectively they're two different things basically :)

What he said - you'll need a UHF aerial for M-Net (and e-TV) - VHF for the others...

You must first get the mnet decoder in your name, which is not always a easy task.
You must have a letter from the previous owner with his/her id number and signature saying that they sold you the decoder.

The best thing to do is take the decoder with you to a multichoice outlet and do the transfer there then they will setup the decoder and make sure everything is working.

You need a letter from the person that gave it to you along with a copy of their ID. Fax it to Mnet with your details, then call and setup a payment method make sure you have the decoder plugged in and it has a decent signal then they send a turn on signal and you watching Mnet only for half the price of DSTV :sick:.

Rip off if you ask me
 
If don't have a letter and ID from the previous owner you'll need to sign an affidavit (at the police station) stating that the decoder was given to you/or you bought it. Once you hand it to MultiCHoice they'll transfer it onto your name.

Yeah, it's a long story.
Pity they don't have the same process with cellphones and a few other things people get killed for.
