M-web to Open Web - Yay or Nay?

Ok, so with my whole misunderstanding of m-web's throttling policy, I have decided to jump ship early (after 1 month of use + a second for notice purposes).

I just want to be clear on where I stand on a contractual point of view. I gave M-web notice to cancel my account with effective date 31/03/2014 (that should cover the notice period, right?). I received their FON router and range extender (I assume they won't work with the new ISP) do I just chuck it in the cupboard or do I need to return it?

Then - I see that Open Web offers free access on their Uncapped Standard Everyday 2mbps account until 31/03/2014. Is this worth going for? This will work perfectly for me if I can get off M-web's network as quickly as possible and get a free intro onto Open Web until my M-web account is cancelled.

Any tips or feedback?
 
Don't make the mistake I did...
I am going back to MWEB, because Openweb's network is too unstable.
Their instability causes issues with GMail and Facebook. They will blame your ADSL line, Telkom, your router, while the real reason is their service provider, Internet Solutions, being the same useless idjits

I'm not to concerned about daytime speed - the wife and myself are both at work during the day - I just need something that can coast along on downloads at a "reasonable" speed during the day and not frustrate us after hours on Facebook / Youtube etc. due to the throttle of death.
 
i will say YAY to openweb, i am with them,tho i will be moving to AH at the start of april
going to try there business account

and what package are u thinking of getting from OW?

the low accounts wont do good in daytime,

Im looking at the Standard Everyday 2mbps account - I just need basic access and a means to stay updated with my favorite series etc. I'm not looking to download the internet, but I don't care much for the restrictions M-web imposes on my use - I might download 70GB this month, but next month I might not even reach 20GB - I'm basically looking for a reliable connection without restrictions. I manage the bandwith available to QBittorrent between 17h00 and 22h00 when we are at home, but the rest of the time I'll just leave the tap open.

I doubt you'll be happy with Openwb unless you go for the Original Gold account which is a bit more expensive.

My suggestion is to rather upgrade to MWEB Premium.

You need to learn the difference between a backbone provider and an ISP.

Out of the all backbone providers IS would be my choice. You can't blame IS for what the ISPs do with the bandwidth they provide. The ISPs all have their own shaping policies and contention ratios they use.

IS is just the upstream bandwidth provider.
 
You can always get a free test account from OW before deciding.
I'm on their 2M gold account with a 4M line, and after hours I get around 420kB/s for HTTP/FTP stuff.

I can't justify the M-web premium account at R369 for the data only (R509 for the bundle) when I can get OW for R195 + R165 for Telkom DSL = R360 just to prevent M-web from throttling me.

or go with the power gold for 250pm data only

its a good acount

if it still a bit much, i will say wait for the gamers king package to come up again
its a nice balance speed and price
 
Ok, cool - so I'll give OW a chance on their Standard 2mbps account and see how it goes.

Any comments on the M-web cancellation and what I should do with the hardware?
 
I wouldn't go to Openweb.

As other have mentioned, rather upgrade to Premium or stay on your current account.

they not home during the day, why on earth would they need gold? standard should be fine for after hours. one would swear OW just has gold going on your recommendations.

Like I said previously - I can't justify the difference in cost.

So how do one sign up for the free trial account? I started up, but they require me to complete a full application (including payment info). Do I just complete it? Will they request my authorization again once the free period has expired?
 
You need to return the MWEB FON router and range extender if you cancel your contract with them.

On a side note, I now have Mweb 4mb standard uncapped for about a month and I am still a happy customer. Get the premium package and you would be set. I am switching to the 4mb premium package because I am sharing the internet with 2 other people that do a lot of downloads + streaming.

My Gmail and Facebook works fine on Openweb. I had SSL connection issues with Facebook last week that was fixed by replacing my router.
