M3 help

Some useful advice in the form of Meguirs prods. Bottom line is that you are going to spend quite a bit of money on these prods, which would be better spent on getting a professional repair.
A professional repair should not cost more than R1000, but I am sure you sure be able to get it done for a lot less - as low as R200 maybe at one of these 'dent magic' places. Just shop around, as some of them will try to rip you off if it's a M3.
I had a long deep scratch in my fender, and had the entire fender resprayed for around R600. I had a small deep indentation on another fender, down to metal, and repaired for around R250, almost impossible to see it any more.

Yep, Meguiars products in SA are way overpriced. I order my stuff online from overseas (www.autogeekonline.net) Works out less than half the price after delivery costs and import duties. Spend around R1500 for a 2 years supply of everything I need. Can't find 90% of their products in SA anyway.

Bumper is plastic. I found two places for repairs, www.autoblemish.co.za and www.automagic.co.za, anyone have any experience with any of these companies?

I went to automagic to get a quote on the small deep indentation on the left front fender. I had dropped a trestle on it, and it landed exactly on the point of the trestle so that the mark was no larger than a 10c piece, but was quite a deep dent and right down to the metal.

So the chap was busy with his clipboard, working out the quote, when in drives a new(ish) big 4x4 fully kitted out for the task. The driver jumps out & calls the assessor over, has a quick look at my vehicle - asks me if the vehicle is insured - and has a chat with him, whist the assessor scribbles furiously on his clipboard. The chap then jumps back in his fancy 4X4 and roars off.

So the assessor says to me that they will have to spray the entire fender, plus the door, in order to match the paint. They will then also have to buff and stuff.
Final figure was R2500.

I said no thanks, drove around the corner to another place that does the same thing. They quoted me R250, and did it while I waited. Like I said, the mark is now extremely hard to spot and you wont know it's there unless you specifically look for it. I will see if I can find the name of this place.

Thanks Tosser, just got off the phone with the stealer, R2500 just to respray and fix the existing bumper! Not even putting a new bumper in! Luckily we've been using Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Scratch X and the deep scratches are now so light that you cannot see them unless you get up close. It's just the paint now that needs to be sorted. If you can find the place tosser, I'd really appreciate it.

I REMEMBERED!

Even at my advanced age! Place was called dent doctor at N1 City, Goodwood. Dunno if you guys got them there though? There were relativley new too at the time - last year apprx. April.

So today my friend and I were in a massive rush and he accidentally backed his M3 into his mum's Merc. Needless to say he took some damage, but nothing too serious. He's left with a lot of scratches which are highly visible, a paint chip right down to the step bumper of about 1cm and lower down a line of lost paint.

He's been using Scratch X on it and has taken out alot of the scratches to the point where you have to look for it in order to find it. But up close it can still be found and looks bad. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove them completely? And what can be done about the paint chips? DIY is preferred but if anyone knows how we can get some touchup paint, please let us know! He's based in JHB

TIA

That's funny, Sapcat. I literally lol'd.

Anyway, I figured the information supplied here is very useful so I added the thread to me bookmarks and googled some more information. I stumbled upon this product: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/22308288/Simoniz_Fix_It_Pro_As_Seen_On_TV_Car_Scratch_Repair_Pen.html

Have you heard of this or seen it on TV? The stuff people make up. I wonder if there were any orders put in for this product.
