Mac chargers with different voltage

What are the consequences of using a higher voltage charger on a MacBook?

My moms charger died so I'm busy charging her MacBook on mine. My MacBook is older and uses an 18.5V charger while hers uses a 16.5V (output as indicated on the chargers).

You can use the 85w charger with models that came with the 60w charger - the laptop with draw what it needs.
 
I thought voltage had to match but the amperage diidn't matter if it was higher?
 
My wife uses my 60w MBP charger on her MBAir, which is 45w, all the time. No problems at all. Obviously, you can't go vice versa though.
 
Oh, did I give the wrong measurement? My bad. I'm charging a laptop (that should use a 60W charger) with an 80W. I guessing from the above that that's ok ?

Absolutely fine. You can also charge them the other way around. It will just take longer.

True. May not charge the laptop while you're using it but it will charge it when it's sleeping or switched off.
 
I'm charging my MBPR 13" with 60 and 85w chargers, and from the Mac mini/27" Display all fitted with the adapter.... fine.

Ja - it will never be a long-term solution. Battery cycles will get messed up chop chop killing battery health. It is not a good solution period - maybe in an emergency but that's it.
