Frankly about to call noobs on all of you above. What do you mean compatible?
This is a partial solution at best. There is so much stuff outside of my gmail that I want synced. Documents, books, music - if I can plug in a device and push one button and have it all synced with my mac then fantastic but the reason the iPhone was so popular initially is that, as any mac user will tell you, syncing sucked at the best of times. Then sync with Google.

Thats why a lot of the cloud services have local sync - to your desktop SMH!!!!I don't want to rely solely on the cloud for my data.
Yes, I read your post - "By syncing I mean email(gmail), contacts (gmail), calendar (google calendar), documents (dropbox, google docs), music (google music)." - You rely on gmail for most things, many dont have or want that option.I already indicated how the Google sync (with all the stuff you mentioned can be done) even using Dropbox you can make it better. Apple also does it with its iCloud offering. So I will assume that you did not really read my post as the alternative would be that you dont understand what the sync products do.
Mac users had suffered from poorly implemented syncing kludges before the iPhone came onto the scene. I don't think I can possibly make it any simpler to understand that that.First from this I dont understand your iPhone statement. So the iPhone was popular because its syncing sucked. I will say that is the first thing I switched off with my iPhone after a refresh was Sync. I do not want all my things tiered to iTunes. Why?
