Has anyone done any surgery on a Mac Mini

I am thinking that the CPU is a mobile one ( same as goes into a Laptop -- which means that it is not so easy to upgrade )

Is the HDD also a 2.5" Laptop model

I suppose the memory is also Laptop memory

Is there a "service" manual available anywhere ????

hi

ive done surgery on a couple of macs - imac, G5, mac mini, macbook pro.

With the mac mini, yes the HDD is a laptop 2'5" drive and is for the memory. The CPU cannot be changed however. Thats pretty much all you can upgrade with the MM. I'll check for the service manual - i know i got one somewhere

I was under the impression that the Intel Mac Minis had a normal CPU socket? When the first ones came out, many people (some on this forum) bought the Core Solo models in order to cheaply upgrade them to Core Duo or Core 2 Duo.

The Mac Mini will happily take a 7200rpm 2.5" drive, by the way (even the old G4 models), making it quite a nice and responsive little machine.

I distinctly remember reading an article on how to do the upgrade a while ago. Think the 1.66GHz Mac Mini used a Core Duo T2300 in a ZIF socket.

EDIT: Here we go - http://www.o0o.it/mini/

Did you ever actually look?

I have found people tend to try and make money out of you saying you can't change a laptops cpu with a pc one, they are interchangeable even the CPU block number is the same usually

And laptops that dont have socketed CPUs?

Bob Jones -- Hack your Mac

Thanks ,

Nice link -- 2.4 Core 2 Duo and 7,200 rpm HDD plus 4Gb memory -- just what the doctor ordered.

Sorry Mr Jobs -- I know that you are the only one that is allowed to fiddle inside a Mac.

You have a winner in the OS -- now lets make the hardware sing.

Anyone know where the Mac hacker forum is ???
