Mac OS On Laptop?

Cool thanks vinodh, just need to know which guide to follow now, has anyone done this? Seems like I will need a retail copy also. Also can a mod please move this to the software section, no idea why I opened it in the hardware section. :/

If you have a fairly new laptop that is powerful enough to run an OS in a VirtualMachine and you don't need multiple screens for OSX, then I would suggest that you first try OSX in like VirtualBox.
You'll have to use tonymacx86/hackintosh if you want to run it in VirtualBox too.

I installed mine from a hackintosh ISO that I got from a friend, so I can't help you out much more than this ;)

It's not for me, it's for someone else they want Mac OS on their laptop like yesterday and they are asking me to do it, problem is I don't know how.

I have done it (netbook LG130) and a friend has done it using one of the multibeast CDs on a normal desktop. Try one of those multibeast boot cds and see what happens but you will need a bootable retail Snow Leopard disk. Dunno about lion.

multibeast was updated for Lion. Tonymac has a bunch of tutorials/videos about how to build a Lion hackintosh.

I see. How would one get the media though? Does it require downloading a 4GB lion installer or using one of those installer disk makers on a Mac with the lion installer?

You have to go through Snow Leopard to get Lion. Purchase Lion from the Mac App Store, and create a bootable USB drive using Unibeast.

I advise they get an Apple Trackpad, re the track pads on all Windows laptops unfortunately are crap.

They'll unfortunately miss the benefit of the multitouch features without this.

It sucks that you'd need to purchase Snow Leopard, just to make the Lion-Unibeast installer. That would be the legal way to do it. You could also find a friend with a Mac, and make the installer there.

But I don't think it unreasonable to use an illegal copy of Snow Leopard for 10 minutes just so that you can BUY and install Lion. You can just get a copy of snow leopard from a torrent or something, boot it in Virtual Box so you can open the App Store and buy Lion.

Then you copy the Lion Install files to the desktop in the VM, and run Unibeast, and it will take those install files and create a bootable Lion USB stick for you - you need an 8GB stick (I don't remember if it works on DVD). Once you got your Lion/Unibeast stick, just delete the Snow Leopard VM. It takes a few minutes (not counting the download time of Lion) using the illegal version, and it results in Apple getting a sale of Lion..and you not wasting money on an OS you only use for a few minutes. I see no harm done.

...I see no harm done.

except the minor violation of Apple's Ts n Cs that say you mustn't hackintosh. Granted, nobody cares about that. Another thing that comes to mind though is that Digicape gave me a free copy of Lion cos I told them I bought it (which I did) and could not download it. I wonder if OP could achieve the same down in Durban.

Edit: Of course, the violation is no harm...but others may see it as such

Many friends on MYBB ;)

I've done it several times on both desktops and laptops. Desktops tend to be easier. The guides on tonymac work the best for me. Had lots of issues using iAtkos and trying to manually install kexts after using an untouched OS X DVD. Unibeast+Multibeast works the best. Also, once you get hold of Lion, extract the installer dmg and make your own Lion bootable installer DVD. Saves a lot of time and effort in the future. Visit kexts.com to find any missing drivers and use kexthelper to install them. Good luck. Trust me, you will need it! ;)

I've done one on my desktop, and my motherboard was pretty well supported, so it was really simple for me.

+1 on Vinodh's post. I've tried other methods in the past, and it was always too much hassle, and I'd eventually get sick of tinkering to get everything going, and just scrap it.

Unibeast to install, and Multibeast to configure other odds and ends makes it pretty easy, but you will need to read up a bit first, learn about DSDT's and if there are any available for your laptop. What audio chipset is being used, and what kexts you need for it etc. I was lucky, Multibeast + an already available DSDT for my motherboard meant everything was seamless. The only driver/kext I needed to set up was for the graphics card, and that was relatively easy just following some dudes post on a forum.

If this is a favour for a friend, it'd better be a GOOD friend lol, cause if you aren't lucky to have hardware that just works, then you're in for quite a mission. It's totally doable though.
