Anyone know how to work out what to pay for a second hand MacBook Pro?

I'm looking at a 2007 15" 2.2 GHz one with a Core2Duo, 2Gig RAM and 8600M GT (128Meg) graphics, 120Gig HDD.

The case looks like it's been dropped a few times and it's quite dusty. The screen seems OK and it has some software like iLife & Office (PowerPC version).

See what other people are selling their's (or similar) for on other Classified sites (MyBB Classifieds, Gumtree, CapeAds/Junkmail, bob) as a rough metric.

At the end of the day. Its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you have a desperate seller and a willing buyer with less cash than the what others are selling then maybe the seller will sell. Reason being that it could take weeks or even months to sell.

Sorry to hear of the condition of the case. You'd assume Mac fanboys would look better after their stuff, being all fanatical and all.

Yes it surprised me too. The damage is quite heavy - like the case has been prized open. I wonder if it can be replaced?

If it has been kicked around like a ball, avoid! My ex-boss was very heavy handed with every Mac he ever had - none of them lasted more than a few years. And the person who inevitably inherited his old stock was stuck with a lemon!

Maybe the seller is my ex boss or maybe they are selling to ditch a lemon. Don't be the sucker...

Resale value is usually quite good - provided that the Macbook has been well looked after. Once you get one, you'll never look back!
