Mac versus PC

Fastest: Apple MacBook Pro
The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year (through 10/25/07) is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware. The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn't care less whether you run Windows. Apple's hw is so good, it makes even Vista shine. Oh and Apple selects the drivers. Guess they're good at something. :)

I use a PC and a Mac and both are great but Macs have definite advantages.

They both have advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I prefer PC hardware and upgradeability, and price/performance. I can see the point of Macs for those who just want a simple machine to do average-user stuff with, or for graphics (not because it's necessarily better, but because the graphics industry is more geared for Macs).

Macs are not corporate-friendly machines, unfortunately.

Apple Final Cut Pro is written by.... Apple. You know MS could also write for PCs....

Yeah, between my Mac Pro and Panasonic Toughbook, I'm happy :).

Maybe but it discredits that cartoon showing a Mac running a low intensity
game at 8fps and the PC running some HD 3D game with photorealistic graphics. A Mac can run Windoze and Mac OSX. A PC can only run Windoze.

A Mac with OSX won't be running the game though.

And PCs don't only run Windows. Where did you get that idea? They run Windows (several variations, depending on need), Linux (dozens of distributions), Unix, MacOS (with some hacking), and a whole bunch of other operating systems.

On this windows on mac topic. I read an article a while back (will try see if i can find it) by Steve Jobs saying that since they use intel architectures which can support windows, mac will support it as they don't want people trying to break their macs getting windows on it. (Like many people have broken their pc's trying to get OS X on it!)

Anyways you guys take this stuff tooo seriously....

Er...MS does write for PCs. What's your point?

*Sigh*

You said in the preceeding Post:

"but because the graphics industry is more geared for Macs)."

I replied that Apple is making the industry geared towards itself by
writing apps like Final Cut Pro and bringing other apps like Shake.

MS can also write a great video editing package - but they won't or rather
they're not capable of doing so, since they can't design a really decent
OS yet.

any mac fans here who isnt into graphic design or a similar line of work?

Word processing, Spreadsheet, presentations are great on Macs too.
In fact MS Office for Mac doesn't have the idiosyncracies that MS Office
for Windows has. There is also equivalent Apple software - which is CHEAPER!
and there is also FOSS. So in that field Macs are at least as good as PCs,
but since they don't crash as much....

Well there you go. Mac = hardware plus OS. But the Mac can also run Windows so when you buy a Mac you can still enjoy your old (or new)
Windows apps while benefiting from apps which are Mac OS X only.

There are some games which run natively on MacOS X. For example Quake 4 which looks very good on the Mac. I actually don't play a lot of games on my PCs either so I wouldn't know.

However if we're gonna judge a machine by how many games it can play, the Sony PS2 can probably play the biggest variety of games, including Japanese domestic releases of which only 1 in 10 make it to the West. That's a ton of games and we obviously don't laugh at the PC because it can't play any of them or the games that it can play are only small in number anyway.

Getting back to the story, Intel Macs can run Windows and run Mac OSX which is a superior OS to Windoze anyway. Yes you can also install Linux and Solaris and other stuff too I guess. You can do everything you can do on the PC and run Mac OSX. The Mac computer IS THE MOST
VERSATILE.

BTW Ubuntu also has a lousy selection of native games, and since you said Windows isn't all PC, it makes PCs junk (by your reasoning) because
Ubuntu can't run every game under the sun (including console games).

Remember folks, a tool is only as good as the work you can do with it.
Macs are usually, better at it than PCs. At least you don't need to be
a registry/disk optimisation/AV/firewall/settings/uninstallation/etc
guru to be able to use a Mac optimally. Start it up, launch the program
and use your time to work, then save, switch off the Mac and go play,
-with the girl, with the PS3, with your car, run Windoze and play games on the Mac,
etc - whatever.

MS doesn't need to; they have a vast software industry servicing the needs of Windows users. That said, I believe that the bundled Windows Movie Maker is as good as the cut-down movie maker on Macs. If you want professional stuff, you buy it - and Adobe make some nice software for Windows.

So in that field Macs are at least as good as PCs,

PCs crash?

Uhm Claymore... Macs run OSX, Windows, Linux and more perfectly..

I know. My point was that PCs don't only run Windows.

And you get the privilege of paying for overpriced hardware *and* you get to pay for an additional copy of Windows.

Well, almost as versatile as PCs. Unless you're talking hardware, in which case it's very, very limited.

Man even with microsoft products mac is better as u can make PDF's from Office on mac, and that CANNOT and WILL NOT be done on windoze! Man i need a macbook, anyone wanna gimme 23 k :P

Eh? Office/Save As/PDF or XPS. Quick and easy.

Do I dare comment on this?

Well, mine is well-behaved - can't remember when last it crashed. And our Windows servers at work seem similarly reliable...

Don't make statements if you don't have the right facts.
