Mac versus PC

StbA, you should have stopped with doctors; wine makers and architects don't really help your argument. :-)

Really? Wine farms that only do exports and architects who design eco friendly office building's in Dubai dont count? Oops, my bad then.

We already knew that hippies love Macs, we wouldn't expect any less of them. Although, if I did serious CAD, I might consider at a Mac, saw Autocad on a 30" Cinema display, WOW!

On second thoughts, I could get a 30" HP (HP sucks, but anyway) for half the price of the Apple.

Custom hardware is only possible with a PC. Stick to standard hardware and everything runs like clockwork on Windows. You'll never have a reason to call it inferior or lacking. PCs gives you that option. Mac expressly forbids it. Apple's like autocratic communism in that way; we tell you what you want, what we'll give you, what you'll pay for it, how long it'll last, and what you'll upgrade to after that.

PCs are more democratic. You decide what you want, choose your vendor, choose how long you keep it for, and upgrade as you please.

After my first post, I looked at Mac prices again. I nearly fainted. Cheapest desktop: The slow, upgrade unfriendly, 80 GB HDD, mini mac - R 8 999 plus several grand for keyboard, mouse, monitor (and windows :-). Cheapest laptop: Never looked at specs, Macbook - R 18 999. Yes, you read that right, nineteen grand.

You fanboys should be ashamed of yourselves, telling folk that they should try the Mac. Are you trying to bankrupt them? Like I said, "very niche products".
Safe to assume all your reason and logic is as flawed? http://www.zastore.co.za/macbook08.php

Why are all Apple haters the same? ie. never owned a mac.

Ignorance is bliss.

There is no such thing as more democratic!! You either democratic or not. There is not middle ground!!

If you actually read the whole thread you would know that not to be true:rolleyes:

:D

Well, all of my clients switched over from Vista to Mac, what does that tell you?, Remember the marketing campaign that has been running in the states "http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/" has never run in SA, so what is making all these people switch over?

Clever marketing, err, no, ease of use, yes, less headache's, yes. If you're a Linux user then you'll have a rough idea of what using a mac is like. To dismiss a Mac as a fanboi affection or to label the owners as people with simple needs is disingenuous at best and does not warrant an extended riposte.

Truly... the Mac slogan of past, "It just works" was the best description of what it means to get a mac, and I think all long term mac users would agree.

I'm not even a long term mac user and i will agree with u StbA (how do u say that nick anyway?) I used to be one to hate macs, till this year where we were given these mac minis in our lab. I would still bash mac but once i started using it i realized that it just works so much better than my laptop which has better specs than the mac mini. Also the fact that there is no bios (i stand to be corrected but i haven't seen one yet) means it can boot in seconds, and not minutes like all you favorite PC OS'.

If Apple wanted me to assume their Macbooks started at R 13 999 (still a lot) they wouldn't have put "Macbook from R 18 999" on their homepage.

Don't blame me for Apples poor website.

And I didn't imply that you all have simple needs, although maybe "special needs" describes it better.

Apple want you to know their laptops start from $999. ZAstore is only a reseller.

Yes but your and Drunkards original comments were directly related to ZAstores prices and not Apples. We don't deal in $ :)
Drunkards flawed assumptions were based on a site he didnt bother to look at and a subsequent he mistakenly attributed that pricing to Apple. Personally, I'm going to assume all his claims are equally shoddily researched.

BTW - I regularly buy my Apple products from overseas and in dollars. ;)
ZAstore isn't "only a reseller" they are the official Apple appointed (being a Core subsidiary) online store in SA.
"The ZA Store is operated by ZA Online (PTY) Ltd. and is independant of Apple Inc." As found on ZAStores website. :)

If they're so independent, why the special treatment. I don't seen any other online stores advertised on Apple SA's website. I'm going to assume that ZA Store is therefore Apple SA's (and therefore Apple's) preferred online store, even if they won't admit it.

You're missing an apostrophe.
