I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet: There's an Apple event today (in a few hours, actually) and they're streaming it live. Expect some new stuff to be announced.

Have to say I'm fairly impressed with the quality of their live stream.

TBH never watched one before.

I think this is the second one. The previous one had, uh, some, uh, issues. For one thing, they somehow overlaid the Mandarin translation on the English stream. Bandwidth was also a problem IIRC.

I think they also started their own live blog - gdgt style - the previous time. I just looked at it for the first time today, and it's pretty obvious it's not a live blogging stream, but a carefully scripted feed. Not surprising though.

He's talking about that right now. That one connector supports a whole bunch of stuff - USB-C

not impressed - they could have added a standard usb port.
seems like the target market for this is the 'ipad+keyboard' market

They had to remove the standard usb to make the macbook so thin.

I guess people will have to get used to it.

I was hopeing the Air would at least get 8 gigs ram as standard and a little price cut , because Im buying a notebook soon.

Apple watch just doesnt grab me.

Just noticed no sd card either.

was hoping they would have made the screen with less bezel, after seeing the dell xps 13 (2015) with infinity display - this screen looks a bit dull in comparison.

I have mixed feelings too. I thought this would replace the MacBook Air. Rather, it seems to be alongside it - nicer screen, lighter and thinner, but as far as I can see slower than the 2014 MBA:

Passmark doesn't seem to have the updated MBA chips (i7-5650U and i5-5250U) yet, but it's sure to widen the gap even further.

I think that this MacBook is meant to bridge the gap between the iPad Air and the Macbook Air. It's actually pretty compelling for students.

Though, the glut of accessories needed to make this device at least decently functional is absurd.

Also, the 13" rMBP costs the same price, and is more powerful (and also has the Force Touch Trackpad), so I'm not really sure what Apple's plan for this model is (despite where I envisage it to be positioned in the market).

I think it's going to be the new toy for startup CEO's at weekly investor meetings.
