Hi

I am looking for a new laptop. I wanted some guidance on what would be the best option. The device will be used for everyday corporate work (word docs, ppt slides, excel, etc,)

I am thinking about the M2, but I have seen differing reviews online.

Is the M3 worth the extra money? Alternatively, is there other Windows laptops at the same price point with the same or better performance?

Get the M2 Pro if you can with at least 16gb. don't waste your time with 8gb. This will give you a solid 5-7 years easy.

You're going to get 5-7 years out of any Macbook unless you're an idiot like me who breaks their screen. It cost nearly $700 to replace my three year old M1 Air's screen in July. Painful, but I see myself keeping it around for a few more years.

To be fair I think a lot of mashines should last that long. I'm still using my Lenovo ThinkPad i7 that I bought slightly used in 2015. I did upgrade ram and ssd though but it still works well for office productivity apps and browsing. I can't comment on battery life since it stays plugged in all of the time.

Mac's and RAM are different to Windows and RAM. A Macbook can use 8GB RAM in ways a Windows machine would not even be able to run for 5mins on... While Windows has many good features too, its just no contest on RAM. Which is also why Apple was even selling 4GB machines long after everyone went to 8 and so forth.

However, as mentioned, to future-proof it and keep value, I would go 16GB.... M2 will easily suffice. Of course if you ever plan to run virtual machines RAM now becomes an important factor...

Battery will prob be toast... I had a Dell at the office we used for something. Robust little laptop and lived on and on and on and on...

But it lived 90% of its life plugged into power. The other day i moved it away from power for a bit - it gets 30mins on battery lol. It was advertised with over 5 hours... when it was bought 3 years ago.

I hear this all the time but and I believe that Mac os is more efficient. But when you run out of RAM (like when opening up multiple tabs in a browser) you will take a performance hit and since these machines aren't upgradable you'll have to buy a new machine to remedy this.

Having 16gb on a windows laptops does appear to be better than having 8gb on a macbook.
