Fetching my Macbook air 13" today, what are the must have applications, Windows or Mac. Am also getting Parallel

I've had my Macbook Air 13" for 1 and a half years now. Absolutely love it - will never get a different laptop - and I use it as my development machine, so I spend about 10 - 13 hours a day on it.

It takes a short amount of time to get used to the screen size, but the resolution and pixel density is nice and crisp, so you don't have to strain your eyes to work on it.

For me, I had to finish a huge project when I just got my laptop, and the mac keys were in different places to what my Sony Vaio keys were - so I donwnloaded a program that allows you to swap keys around - so for example, I could make the Alt key on the laptop my CNTRL key as it was switched around and my fingers were used to pressing in those positions. LOL.

Also, it's really a breeze booting into the Mac OS and then configuring Bootcamp to dual boot with Windows - the wizard guides you very nicely through it all. I use the Mac OS to write iOS and Android apps, and Windows to code Windows programs / .Net development, so I didn't want to run it in a virtual environment - wanted to boot into the correct OS so that I get full use of my system resources.

Why use Parallels when you can use boot camp?

Also asking R1150 for VM software is mental.

If you are going to be doing a bit of mouse intensive work then I would recommend a separate mouse. Working on that trackpad - although a really nice trackpad - really gets annoying after a bit.

* Reasons for Parallel: is that i don't want to have to restart the machine to use visual studio( Only Office, SQL 2012 and VS2012) will need windows.
* Later i might start doing Android development. Just for fun.
* I will also be downloading occasional torrents from it

Congrats on your first Mac :D

I took mine back yesterday. It was bent/warped. It wasn't sitting flush on tables and desks etc. I'm really disappointed.

Are they replacing it or what's the deal?

Don't waste your money on Parallels just get Virtualbox.

But whatever you do DO NOT install Windows at the first moment you get stuck, then the entire exercise of getting a Mac is pointless.

See if you can survive a month with just OS X and genuinely LEARN how to use the OS before reverting to Windows.

You'll probably find you don't really need Windows any more.
