My macbook which i got about a year and a half ago from the zastore is suddenly giving me strange battery problems. When it is connected to the power everything works fine. The moment i disconnect the power it stays on for about 2 to 3 minuntes and then just dies in about 2 seconds flat. No warning etc. I did the battery update and according to istatpro the stats is Health 73%, Cycles 147 and charge 95% and the little "a" at the bottom 70%. I tried discharging it but it keeps on dying every couple of minutes. Can i exchange the battery or must i buy a new one ?

6 months out of warranty... you're going to have to buy a new one. Retail box is about R1400 but if you speak nicely to one of the resellers, they should be able to get a warranty part which will cost you about R900

It's probably worth checking the Apple support site first. There were a couple of battery exchange programs for Macbooks. I'd imagine if your serial number matches that the fact that it is out of warranty might go ... unnoticed

^ Check to see if your battery is listed under the exchange program.

Life expectancy on the battery's is about 2.5 years with normal use, i.e letting it discharge completly once a week. If it's plugged in the whole time the life is much less.

You've got a Macbook Pro, no extended warranty.

Also try full charge
full charge plus additional 2 hours
then discharge till sleep
leave in sleep state for 5 hours
then charge up agen
thats the proper way
