I have a 2007 MacBook with a battery cycle count of just under 150. The battery health is dropping rapidly - currently 71%. I've read that it may be part of a silent recall. How do I check? Is there an online tool that allows you to check the serial number and whether it is eligible for replacement?

Let me know ... thanks,

Jay

silent recall that has an online tool to check...

That would make it somewhat less silent.

First check to see if your battery firmware has been updated.
The way to use a battery is the following.
Every week the battery should be used i.e. run down completely. Keeping it plugged in rapidly decreases your battery life.
My MB is 25 months old and my original battery still lasts for 2 hours.

no dude you have a mac you can't complain that's just not cricket :P

give ur mac and battery serial number to ur nearest apple authorized centre and get them to check it.

If you dont believe them, pm me and i will check it myself

Hi ... Not complaining. My MB is 19 months old. I do the battery cycling once or twice a month as recommended. The battery still lasts 2 or so hours (maybe more), but the health is deteriorating ... noticeably. It's almost like a dead cell in there, which say 3 or so hours and then it drop suddenly to 2 or so hours instantly. The Profiler says check battery. All software is up to date. Hoping to get lucky ... new bat is now over R 2K.

My macbook battery died with under 100 charge cycles on it. My macbook was one month out of warranty, but I took it into Core's repair center and they replaced the battery free of charge with a brand new one. I couldn't be more happy!

Maybe take it in and see what they say?

u must be one in a billion to be happy with their service...

This prompted me to check on mine. coconutBattery tells me that I have done 172 load cycles, the maximum charge is 5033mAh, and the current charge is 5033mAh. Looks like it's still in good shape. Mine is 14 months old. I'm happy :)

CoconutBattery?

It has one other function - allows you to save the current state to a log, so you can track deterioration over time. Not significant, I know, but I downloaded it thinking there'd be more to it.

Mine is about 23 months old and started giving problems as well. Just took it to the local Apple center and they replaced it no questions asked.

Which model do you have Moonglum ... the iStore is a good 45 mins away. Don't want to go all the way for nothing. Calling them is of no use ... they couldn't give me the specs on a MacBook a while back ... and confused the MackBook with the Air.

I also have a 2007 MacBook. I have used it maybe twice a week (ended up hating Logic Pro so didn't totally migrate from Sonar) and the battery appears to be 100% dead. I installed all updates, reset the stuff that can be reset, with no luck.

Suffice it to say that I am not happy... I'll take it into the dealer and see what they have to say.

usually if ur battery is under 300 cycles and is having issues, it will be replaced.

Thinking about batteries, it would be nice if they build the new 17" battery technology into the current batteries. I'd happily pay £100 for a new battery if it will give me longer battery life.
