Seems i'm not alone in this.

quite frequently, in fact constantly, the bluetooth connection between MBP's and audio devices begins to "stutter" after extended periods of playing music.
This happens despite no other apps running on the macs or other devices at the same time.
I've also tried shutting off wifi on nearby devices.

typically one of the macs will be sending music to a yamaha sound projector which in turn is wired to a jbl partybox (used as subwoofer for yamaha.
so yamaha receives the bluetooth connection.
i've also tried switching this around so jbl receives the bluetooth signal and passes sound to yamaha via line in / out.

the macs having aluminium cases cant do much to help the signal from the bluetooth module embedded within aluminium .
so next attempt would be using an external bluetooth transmitter of sorts.

any recommendations on an external bluetooth transmitter ?

I had this issue too. There was a hack for it I duly copied from an online source. Maybe search for that.
What also helped was a complete format and reinstall, which I was forced to do by the company at the time when they changed chieftains.

Never had this issue with any Intel MBPs or Apple Silicon. Did have issues with BT with a Mac Pro in the past.

Buy something like this: and connect to your Yamaha receiver.

I have had this before with an Intel Air, but I generally got the impression it's because of cheap or crappy implementation on the receiving end. By saying this I'm in no way implying that this is the case with Yamaha nor JBL.

What MacBook do you have?

The antenna for the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth run up and around the display where it's cover by glass ;)

indeed - my bad - i've pulled a few apart over the years.

ive got a few - all seem to suffer similar fatigue
16" m1 pro
14" m3
15" i9
i tend to use the m3 most of the time

in a rare moment of wisdom when doing renovations at home, i had the builders cut into the floor slab to run rather large trunking / conduit from one side of various rooms to the other.
maybe its time to give up on the bluetooth and go cable again !

Try nuking that and see if things improve.

Zoom has a sordid history of taking over and ****ing with the current Bluetooth audio device.
will do

done
zoom now a thing of the past.

it may be a bit early to wake up the neighbors - will give things a good go in about an hour

Or AirPlay instead.

Easy enough to add to most things these days.

dunno if it's psychosomatic, but since zoom was evicted no lagging and hiccups after about 3hrs constant playing.

had the volume cranked up a little - housekeeper came walking in, stood there staring at me in silence with her hands on her hips.
i was expecting to be chased around by her brandishing the biggest wooden spoon she could lay her hands on.
turns out it was a little loud
