Can anyone recommend an external battery pack to keep a MacBook running through load shedding ?

I've gone for the Ravpower 2 option , don't need the rugged waterproof features :)
thanks Lord Flacko , you got me pointed in the right direction

It arrives tomorrow , will let you know how it goes with the 15”

My guess is it just slightly slows battery drain - but it won't charge as it's 40w vs the 80 odd watt usually - so it won't charge an in use 15", but one that's off / closed should be fine.

I have this one .... and it's pretty amazingly fantastic.

It recharges my 15" MacBook Pro from empty, no problem at all. This is as large a battery as is allowed on an airplane, and believe me, I'm grateful for every watt of it.

you're spot on, I think it may only slow the battery drain but not by much.

Romoss Sense 8+ 30000 or a Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 3 Pro 20000 if traveling.

Please let me know if it manages to charge the MBP while closed / standby. I'd be OK with that when travelling as can charge a bit while taking a break.

Most of the power banks I've seen are only able to cater for the 13" units - if that...

I have the Sense 8+ but it won't power the 15"MacBook Pro ( 85W )
Where did you get yours from?
Mine says model No.: PHP30 Pro Capacity : 30000mAh/ 111Wh and it powers a 2017 15" Pro and a 16" Pro

Thats the one I need but it's certainly not cheap :)
ey that thing malfunctions it will blow a hole clean through an airplane fuselage lol.
Does look very nice though, and having backup power for a Macbook Pro is great.

I got mine from Takealot - March 2019 , looks like it's the same as yours

Have tried different cables Type-C - >Type-C and USB output to Type-C input
MacBook Pro 15" 2017 never shows the chaging status

When I use Type-C - >Type-C the Sense 8 LED flashes, making me think the Mac is now charging the battery pack??
how do you connect them ?

so just an update on the Ravpower 40W. it does charge my 15" now that I have given it a full overnight charge.
Enough to use the laptop and still charge it slowly , i.e from 80 to 99% in 20 Mins
At least it's something positive

I was previously testing it on a low charge, as I had received it.
