For R10k you can have a Macbook with 8gb RAM and 256GB SSD and then put the old 500GB hdd in the CDRom.
I have the previous version of that model from 2011 but with the above upgrades and I have never noticed it being slow.
Battery still lasts 5-6hours which is un heard of for a 5yr laptop.

I have the same model that was on sale here. I put in 16GB RAM and a 250GB SSD and it feels faster during normal operation than my high end laptop...
 
Don't buy that, it's nonsense. Use applebuddy.com to buy a better refurbished mac machine at amazon of a better performance
