MacBook Pro M1 Pro or M1 Max?

Huge price difference but is it necessary?

And anyone else here waiting for stock?

Really depends on what you plan to do.

There was a weird price gap between the two at specific configurations where it made more sense to go Max but don’t remember what it was exactly.

Pretty much all the good 'Tubers out there who performed detailed benchmarks on both feel the Pro is way more than sufficient for like 90% use cases. The added headroom of the Max is marginal or at the least only comes into effect if you do really specialised and/or intensive tasks.

M1 Pro has much better battery life than M1 Max. Unless you know you need the extra horsepower, save your money.

I think the concensus is that in most cases the Pro is more than good enough for the vast majority of people.

My 16” MacBook Pro has finally been purchased and should be shipping today from Joburg.

Got it from Macnificent. Didn’t spot any other retailer with the 32GB version in stock.

- Space Grey
- M1 Pro
- 32GB memory
- 1TB storage

So stoked. My base model M1 MacBook Air is struggling with my workflows.

wonder if they're legit
Looks sketchy as hell. The price is suspicious, no info about being an authorised Apple reseller, no physical address provided, no about page, templatey menu structures etc. Spending that kind of money on a place like that would be pretty foolish.

My 16" MacBook Pro arrived on Monday. This is easily the best piece of tech I've ever purchased. I can't recommend it enough. The display size makes a night and day difference for my dev work compared to 13". This thing actually feels like a 'desktop replacement'. I could comfortably work for hours at my desk or outside, whereas being in laptop mode with my MacBook Air was a real struggle on my eyes.

I had no concern for the display quality before purchase (as the Air was already excellent), but wow, the "Liquid Retina XDR" display @ 120Hz is a noticeable step up and makes my 32" 60Hz monitor so much less enjoyable than before.

Also, the battery life is absurd. It still said 100% after working outside for over 30 minutes yesterday. The M1 Air had exceptional battery life but this seems far superior (although just an early impression over a few hours).

Nice, enjoy! I'm proper jelly, although 14" would've been my choice of preference. Anyway, hope you have many happy hours on it!
