Hi

Anybody upgraded their Macbook Pro mid 2010 15" RAM lately?
Do you have to use Apple branded Ram??

Or can you get normal laptop DDR3 1066Mhz SO-DIMMs??

What about doing the upgrade yourself? Can it be done without voiding warranty - or do you have to take it to CORE

Use regular DDR3 so-dimms, they work perfectly and don't void your warranty or anything. You can upgrade to a maximum of 8gb ram using 2 4gb sticks.

Cool, so if i replace the memory and HDD myself - i wont need to worry about voiding the warranty once i open the Macbook Pro?

My MBP 15" i7 has the 8GB upgrade. It was very easy to do. Just buy any decent DDR3 1066 2x4GB kit and you can do it in 10 mins. My MBP handles anything I throw at her now. Love it :)

I got a 13" MBP(May 2010) so I have a core 2 duo but when I go into my system it says under graphics "Pixel depth-32 bit" I'm running 10.6.5 and have the 2.4 GHz model. Explanation?

The 64-bit kernel is not needed for supporting 64-bit apps. Don't worry that the kernel is 32-bit, for some Macs.

Where did you get the RAM from and what was the price for 2 x 4GB sticks?
Also where is the cheapest place in Gauteng to get the above from?
