Anybody upgraded their Macbook Pro mid 2010 15" RAM lately?
Do you have to use Apple branded Ram??

Or can you get normal laptop DDR3 1066Mhz SO-DIMMs??

What about doing the upgrade yourself? Can it be done without voiding warranty - or do you have to take it to CORE :twisted:

Use regular DDR3 so-dimms, they work perfectly and don't void your warranty or anything. You can upgrade to a maximum of 8gb ram using 2 4gb sticks.

Cool, so if i replace the memory and HDD myself - i wont need to worry about voiding the warranty once i open the Macbook Pro?

Nope, it's a very easy upgrade too, you just need a small philips screwdriver, screw off the bottom plate and everything's right there.

The RAM upgrade is super easy.

The hard drive upgrade is a little harder but not too hard.

Dont forget the a Torx screw driver.

No only the older Core Duo laptops were 32-bit.. Core 2 Duo and onward were fully 64-bit.

My MBP 15" i7 has the 8GB upgrade. It was very easy to do. Just buy any decent DDR3 1066 2x4GB kit and you can do it in 10 mins. My MBP handles anything I throw at her now. Love it

I got a 13" MBP(May 2010) so I have a core 2 duo but when I go into my system it says under graphics "Pixel depth-32 bit" I'm running 10.6.5 and have the 2.4 GHz model. Explanation?

That means 32-bit colour is being sent to you display. Which is only capable of like 18-bit colour anyway, but I digress.

Not all MacBook Pro Core2Duos can run the 64bit kernel. I have a late '07 MBP 15" Core2Duo, and it specifically can't.

The 64-bit kernel is not needed for supporting 64-bit apps. Don't worry that the kernel is 32-bit, for some Macs.

Where did you get the RAM from and what was the price for 2 x 4GB sticks?
