Hi

My Macbook stopped turning on recently. It still have power to the external drive attached, but it wouldn't boot up. I took it in to the Apple Store and they said it would be checked under warranty, but now I get an email back from Core saying that there is liquid damage and I have to pay R10 000 if I want the laptop repaired because the logic board is broken. I don't know where the laptop would have gotten liquid damage from and I think it may just be an excuse.

Does anyone know of any other place I could take the laptop to? I live in Port Elizabeth.

Thanks

I had the same problem my friend. I'm also in PE. No one could help me and I wasn't about to pay the R16k the iStore quoted me on.

My Imac 27" just broke 2 months ago... core quoted me R14200 for a new logic board. I sent an email to tim cook at apple..... NO jokes.. received a phone call 2 days later from apple exec office and they instructed core SA to replace for free as they have something called a "first time incident" type of thing... My Imac is out of warranty.. Was repaired for free and im very happy.

Guys I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and the battery has bulged so much that my trackpad doesn't work anymore. Anywhere in JHB that I can take it to that can replace the battery without being ripped off?

Have you tried one of the ifix stores? I've used then a couples times for the gf screen replacements. Gotten good service from them. Never taken a MacBook though.

The boards have liquid markers on.

These muppets just look at those and not even at the board itself and then automatically make that the cause.

In Cape Town I would have said take it to Dennis.

Went to the iStore in Clearwater Mall last weekend but see that it is closed for renovations.... Will try find another one to take it to.

Anyone having issue with retina screen peeling? Took mine to Digicape and they quoted me 7300 for a new screen. Digicape told me that they logged a call with Apple and the case was rejected. Their reason for the peeling off is user related. How is that even possible. Just googled retina peeling and found this staingate.org website. It does look like quite a few people are being affected.

Leave it as is for now. Once the ball starts rolling, Apple will launch a quality replacement program and admit there was a faulty batch of displays for MacBook Retina screens.

Spoke to Apple support yesterday. Call was escalated to Apple Engineers. The support guy on the phone mentioned that they are receiving quite a few calls about the retina displays.
